Applebee's is to close another 35 further locations this year, after shutting 46 in 2023.
The restaurant chain has shut at least three locations so far this year and has plans to close even more, president Tony Moralejo said in an earnings call on Wednesday.
Closing restaurants was 'an incredibly difficult decision' and a 'last resort' for the company, Moralejo said.
The American grill chain, famous for its $10 burgers and 'dollaritas', closed 46 of its more than 1,500 locations due to 'underperformance' last year.
The franchise - which competes with the likes of Waffle House and Denny's - has been shutting hundreds of restaurants since 2017.
Hudson, 120 miles north of New York City, is one such location affected by the most recent round of closures.
Hudson's neighborhood Applebee's will shut its doors on May 19.
Workers impacted by the shutdown have been offered other jobs within the franchise, WTEN reported.
'We greatly appreciate our neighbors' patronage for the past 15 years and have loved being a part of this neighborhood,' a spokesperson for the local franchise said.
'We hope to see you at our neighboring restaurants throughout the Albany and Hudson Valley markets' they added.
'Consumer caution with respect to economic conditions persisted following the holiday period and as a result the consumer has become more price sensitive,' John Peyton, CEO of parent company Dine Brands said during the earnings call on Wednesday.

Took my British (Northern Ireland) wife to Applebees in the Netherlands not too far from my base in Germany. She decided she was going to see why the yanks liked “iced tea” so much, so since it was prominently marked on the menu, she ordered one. I informed her that she would need some luck finding actual tea in the glass. I must mention she is barely 5 feet tall and 95 pounds. She finished and was feeling pretty good and ordered another when I stepped away from the table. She finished it, and got mad when I wouldn’t get her a third one. If you want to know how the rest of my evening went, imagine a drunk Mary Poppins with Northen Irish anger issues.

Horrible food. So, bye
“The American grill chain, famous for its $10 burgers and ‘dollaritas’, closed 46 of its more than 1,500 locations due to ‘underperformance’ last year.”
Underperformance means people don’t have enough money to dine out in even cheaper places these days....the while goal is to destroy the Middle Class because we’re all that stands between them and our own slavery...
Depends on the franchisee. Our local TR is suffering from poor service and shrinkflation. Lack of help and inflation. The TR 20 the next town over is as it ever was.
I went to Buc-ee’s the other day. $8.50 for one burrito.
I lived through the 70s.
I’m thinking we’re reliving something a bit further back.
Like the 1770s...
My ancestors are spinning.
And a note to the human beings who have allowed Deep State to price them out of the labor market: WTG!
Really. Not even close to the same category. Denny’s either. I don’t patronize any of them, but — really.
democrat years produce democrat results every time
I Agree... I stopped at one some years ago, I think it was around Cumberland, Kentucky....(?)....anyway, I ordered the grits, what I got was a bowl of white, grainy looking soup..... Bad.
Whuut? Not any I have ever been to. Applebee's and Chili's, yeah.
Applebee’s, Chili’s, Bennigan’s, TGI Friday’s are comparable.
Waffle House, Denny’s and IHOP are comparable.
They are not the same food groups.
No kidding!
The hours of the one closest to me are 11 - 11. Hardly Waffle House or Denny’s.
I watched them open Applebee’s on the edge of ghetto areas and wondered how such places would survive.
I imagine they even accept EBT, to no avail.
“ Eggs and grits. I like grits too. How do you cook your grits? You like ‘em regular, creamy, or al dente?”
My cousin Vinny
What is a grit anyways..? :)
