Former President Trump is planning to speak at the Libertarian Party’s convention in Washington, D.C., later this month, his campaign confirmed Wednesday.
Trump will “address concerns voiced by its members” during the event May 25, the party said in a statement. The convention, which will take place May 23-26 at a D.C. hotel, is where the party will nominate its presidential ticket.
“Libertarians are some of the most independent and thoughtful thinkers in our Country, and I am honored to join them in Washington, DC, later this month,” Trump said in a statement. “We must all work together to help advance freedom and liberty for every American, and a second Trump Administration will achieve that goal.”
The Libertarian Party said it invited both the presumptive GOP nominee and President Biden to address the convention. Biden is not slated to speak.
Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who previously flirted with the possibility of being the party’s nominee, said he would not run as a Libertarian in mid-April. Kennedy attended the California Libertarian Party state convention in February.
Apart from the former president, other speakers attending the convention include cardiologist and epidemiologist Dr. Peter McCullough, comedian Dave Smith, Julian Assange’s brother Gabriel Shipton, entrepreneur Robert Breedlove, and economist Mark Skousen.
Trump’s appearance will give him an opportunity to court more third-party voters as he looks to secure a win in November.

I'm excited he's headlining this event & will be the first GOP nominee to do so in 50 years ...
Maybe he can talk some sense into them.
“Maybe he can talk some sense into them.”
Maybe he can talk some sense into the Republicans.
Smart move.
Reports from a week or so ago stated that Kennedy is also scheduled to speak. And Vivek ... I can’t spell his last name ... that Indian who ran for president this year in the Republican primaries.
Trump should seek to be listed as their candidate.
Trump isn’t for open borders and is too conservative for them on other issues.
Never a Dem or a Pub, I was a registered Libertarian for a handful of years. But I eventually left because they were just as locked into their ideology as every other political party. An independent always, in both thought and deed.
Inside of every republican is a Libertarian. The libertarian problem is the minimum 5-6 lost senate seats that are blue because the Libertarians ran vanity candidates over the last few decades. I’m thinking of the northwest. They won’t drop out for THEIR greater. good. Democrats don’t have that problem.
Remember also that the hard core libertarians who would like to see enhanced freedom to cross borders also believe that there should be next to no welfare at all, and certainly none of the nonsensical situations we have today where illegal immigrants are transported, housed, and fed at the taxpayer's expense.
The Party calls for open borders and all the world free to come here, all of them, and the silly claim about welfare has nothing to do with anything, it is a libertarian smoke screen of, “”give us our open borders today and wish for your fantasies about eliminating welfare to come true tomorrow.””

I asked this in another thread, but nobody commented on it. Is Trump trying to become both the Libertarian and the Republican candidate?
He’s a better fit for it then RFKjr!
It would be an interesting way of picking up an extra 1 or 2% that normally throw their vote away virtue signaling.
It won’t be surprising if the Libertarians don’t name a nominee, and just endorse Trump. It also won’t be surprising if they don’t name a nominee or endorse anyone.
The bumpstock ban, increasing the federal debt by $7.8 trillion, the persecution of Assange etc. Trump should not be the Libertarian Party’s candidate.
RFK, Jr. a better fit, eh?
