Russia will have to increase its entire missile arsenal to deter the West as Moscow is now in an open confrontation with the United States and its allies, a Russian diplomat was quoted as saying on Monday.
President Vladimir Putin's 2022 invasion of Ukraine touched off the worst breakdown in relations between Russia and the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, according to Russian and U.S. diplomats.
Russia has ramped up weapons production and is now forecast by the United States to manufacture this year more artillery than all of NATO's 32 members combined.
"We are now at the stage of open confrontation, which, I hope, will not result in a direct armed conflict," Russian Ambassador-at-Large Grigory Mashkov told the state RIA news agency.
Accordingly, Mashkov said, it will be necessary to take "further steps to strengthen the country's defense capability, including building up the missile arsenal, in order to discourage any potential enemy from testing Russia's strength."

Me thinks that Russia and China are using a two pronged approach to the NATO plan’s to deploy 100,000 troops from all member nations into Ukraine.

Seven French Foreign Legion troops were killed in Chas-a-yar(sp) overnight, over a dozen wounded, and the French unit withdrew. Russia also fired a missile into the French Foreign Legion contingent in one location.

If you watch the interview and read the transcript he is saying what has been said many times, continue with our NATO aid to Ukraine or after Ukraine, Russia will threaten NATO countries and our men and women will have to fight them, (in NATO countries).

I wonder if this Russian diplomat will be thrown out a window for making the tacit admission that Russia’s nuclear and missile arsenals are in reality not so fearsome as they are on a spreadsheet.

Hia point is Russia had a military of only 380k men worldwide in 2022. They are training over 300k every July and January... This July will top 1m new troops. In fact they may be at 1.2m in July.
For the second 7 day period Russia announced they killed over 8k Ukrainians each week.
