Former President Donald Trump came down hard on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a new interview with Time, criticizing him directly for the October 7 terrorist attack and indirectly for Israel’s presentation of its war against Hamas in the days since.
Asked if he thought it was time for Netanyahu “to go,” Trump did not come to his old ally’s defense.
“Well, I had a bad experience with Bibi. And it had to do with [Qasem] Soleimani, because as you probably know by now, he dropped out just before the attack,” replied Trump. “And I said, ‘What’s that all about?’ Because that was going to be a joint and all of a sudden, we were told that Israel was not doing it. And I was not happy about that. That was something I never forgot. And it showed me something. I would say that what happened on—the October 7 should have never happened.” “It happened on his watch,” observed the former president’s interlocutor.
“No, it happened on his watch. And I think it’s had a profound impact on him, despite everything. Because people said that shouldn’t have happened. They have the most sophisticated equipment. They had—everything was there to stop that,” said Trump. “And a lot of people knew about it, you know, thousands and thousands of people knew about it, but Israel didn’t know about it, and I think he’s being blamed for that very strongly, being blamed. And now you have the hostage situation—”
Shortly after that, Trump was asked if he thought he “could work better” with Benny Gantz, one of Netanyahu’s political rivals.
“I think Benny Gantz is good, but I’m not prepared to say that. I haven’t spoken to him about it. But you have some very good people that I’ve gotten to know in Israel that could do a good job,” said Trump. “And I will say this, Bibi Netanyahu rightfully has been criticized for what took place on October 7.”
Trump also said that “Israel has done one thing very badly: public relations.”
“I don’t think that the Israel Defense Fund or any other group should be sending out pictures every night of buildings falling down and being bombed with possibly people in those buildings every single night, which is what they do,” he added.
And Bibi WAS the first world leader to rush to call Biden. He did it at 7am the morning after when the big lie steal was only 3 hours old.
Obrador in Mexico showed far more backbone. He waited until the electoral college voted. In his past he also had an election stolen from him.
But to be fair, Bibi is not solely to blame. The Israeli public bears HUGE culpability. They spent a year with massive street protests over the judicial reform law. Entire units of the IDF and intel services walked off the job.
Every single one of those pricks shoulders a big measure of blame.
Trump is correct. Netanyahu is a failure and a loser who needs to go.
Well, that's not what I hear from the Genesis 12:3-quoting Christian Zionist dimwits who persistently contaminate this site with their Darbyite dispensationalist nonsense and MCU-themed approach to eschatology.
Israeli politicians who restricted citizens’ ability to own firearms over the years should be rounded up and “dealt” with. Their problem..we’ve got our own.
The same way 9/11 happened, despite our world class intelligence network. They ignored all the evidence they had ahead of time of the event because they didn’t believe our enemies could pull it off.
It appears that some of the top officers were involved in political opposition to Netanyahu. I wonder if he had to call these officers more than once to get them to start fighting back.
No president did more for Israel than Trump.......the list is too long to mention.
Netanyahu benefited and greatly enhanced his political bona fides, thanks to Trump.
But when Trump needed a friend after the 2020 election where was Bibi?
Hot-footing to the mic to suck up to Biden.
An outrage that a decent man like Trump will forgive but his supporters will not.
—> No question Israel dropped the ball on 10/7, with its highly touted intelligence network, it is hard to believe how this happened.
Or allowed it for a purpose they wanted more…
Maybe Bibi should not have been the first world leader to slob the knob of the usurper.
Both can be true... in fact are true... Trump was pissed at Bibi over the bow out from the Soleimani strike and he was pissed at him over the phone call to congratulate Biden - I’m not mind reader enough to know which pissed him off the most.
“Bibi’s phone call was a knife in the back and it got him nothing”
That’s not true: Biden didn’t shut down funding.
I was his biggest fan before seeing what a bunch of saps he thinks Americans are. He’s right of course but he should have kept it off camera.
Trump has not forgotten that Bibi stuck a knife in his back 4 years ago after the Steal.
“...the CIA was caught with its pants down...”
Just like 9/11 and the next one that is coming.
What “pisses off” a man is not what should “piss off” a President.
Yeah, well, we are all human... I agree with you though, a head of state should prioritize state interest over personal. My sense is, given the nature of our politics Trump sees those two as identical.
You raise an important point. Israel does not trust its own citizens to keep and bear arms. At an absolute minimum, every Israeli military veteran should have the right to keep guns and ammunition in his house.
It would be one thing if we’re talking about a country surrounded by peaceful neighbors. But we’re talking about a country surrounded by lunatics who want to kill every last Jew.
“It would appear so”
Biden elected with 81 million totally legitimate votes, I know right!
“They did whatever they wanted and he didn’t do a thing about it.”
Couldn’t. Think he should stroll down with a 38 and force them? Mattis and the DOD was submarining him every chance they got. When he pardoned and ordered the Navy to knock it off on SEAL Eddie Gallagher, the Navy started new proceedings to strip his trident. DOJ was under the control of the swamp from the moment he got into power. After he fired Comey, Paul Ryan, McConnell, McCain and Graham publicly stated he would be immediately impeached and removed. His order to leave Syria was ignored. His negotiations with North Korea were undermined by the GOP and Bolton.
It’s dishonest to say he “didn’t” do a thing about it. He worked relentlessly. But he was one man alone, but his own party leadership, bitter at his MAGA victory cut him off at the knees.
He had very little actual control beyond the walls of his office due to the constant treason. DC, the FBI and CIA infested the White House with spy operations targeting Trump.
I figure he had maybe 30% of the power a president normally carries. And with that he achieved miracles. One of which was causing the traitors to step into the open.
