President Joe Biden’s Navy secretary wants to import skilled blue-collar migrants to build the U.S. Navy ships that protect Americans and their job opportunities.
“What we’ve got to do is open up the spigot a bit, basically, on legal immigration to allow blue-collar workers to come here … so they can actually work in our shipyards and be employed by the types of trades that are open to shipyard workers,” Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro told a meeting in Arlington Va.
Del Toro’s call for migrant shipbuilders comes amid a shipbuilding crisis where many U.S. warships are being delivered far behind schedule, sometimes with deep flaws, Forbes reported in 2021 that the United States:
builds less than 10 vessels for oceangoing commerce in a typical year. China builds over a thousand such ships each year. The entire U.S.-registered fleet of oceangoing commercial ships numbers fewer than 200 vessels, out of a global total of 44,000.
However, the administration’s support for mass migration reduces the pressure on state governments and companies to train the next generation of Americans for skilled jobs.
The government’s inflow of cheap migrants also provides CEOs and investors with an easy excuse to avoid the difficult task of raising per-person productivity. Boosting productivity usually requires executives to manage a painful mix of training, automation, reorganization, risk, and innovation.

Jill Biden wants to know if the navy ships will be like breakfast tacos or more like burritos.
Paintball, why don’t you put a rubber band around your head and snap out of it!
These Illegals want FREE STUFF and you can stick your work
The Navy has turned Traitor
H1-B’s for shipyard workers.

“skilled blue-collar migrants”
No.
It is not the lack of “blue collar” workers. It is the lack of the most modern and most technicalogically advanced military ship building operations in the U.S., which means not “blue collar” workers as advanced - and often robotic building operations.
I bunch U.S. Navy brass and U.S. navy shipbuilding execs visited south Korea recently to look at their military ship building operations. All the U.S. visitors were “amazed” at how advanced the South Koreans were in every way, compared to their own opeations in the U.S.
How did it get this way.
It got this because our navy shipbuilders have been getting the money from Presidents and Congress, not matter what, so many improvements were not necessary in order to keep the money flowing.
Little Korea could not afford the luxary of NOT being super efficient.
Yep cause they are doing so great at boeing;-)
2nd comment:
The U.S. should scrap the U.S. shipbuilders and contract with the south Koreans to come here and establish up-to-date shipbuilding operations like theirs.
I understand China has a lot of very skilled shipbuilders...
And hiring law breakers will improve the error rate?
Tacos for surface ships, burritos for submarines...
Is this a joke?
Don't you think such a notion would create a few wee security risks? Isn't the design of warships considered a military secret that no one without clearance--and especially not a hostile foreigner crashing our border--ought to see?
Not to mention that the Chinese agents organizing this migration of pretend-braceros will make sure the agent-braceros are dutifully reporting to Peking the details and pix of the new vessels, plus building handy defects in key places.
Navy ships behind schedule? Blame decades of piss poor management and union rules.
My dad worked for GD in the sixties ran the numbers and predicted a boat would be 24weeks over due and notified SR management. It ended up being 26 weeks. The Navy and GD fired his section got fired and kept the Canoe U. Retirees on staff. After the Navy investigation they exonerated my dad and GD wanted to rehire him. He said when I predict the next boat overdue you going to fire me again? He never went back.
If you give migrants a warship, they will use it to demand drugs and food.
If we want ships (or most anything else) built right, we should outsource to Japan, Germany, Denmark etc. Otherwise, pity the poor sailors who have to man our union built scows.
