....In 2024 Kristi Noem, a strong contender to be named running mate to Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, has managed to go one further – by admitting killing a dog of her own.
“Cricket was a wirehair pointer, about 14 months old,” the South Dakota governor writes in a new book, adding that the dog, a female, had an “aggressive personality” and needed to be trained to be used for hunting pheasant....By taking Cricket on a pheasant hunt with older dogs, Noem says, she hoped to calm the young dog down and begin to teach her how to behave. Unfortunately, Cricket ruined the hunt, going “out of her mind with excitement, chasing all those birds and having the time of her life”.
Noem describes calling Cricket, then using an electronic collar to attempt to bring her under control. Nothing worked. Then, on the way home after the hunt, as Noem stopped to talk to a local family, Cricket escaped Noem’s truck and attacked the family’s chickens, “grabb[ing] one chicken at a time, crunching it to death with one bite, then dropping it to attack another”.
Cricket the untrainable dog, Noem writes, behaved like “a trained assassin”.
When Noem finally grabbed Cricket, she says, the dog “whipped around to bite me”. Then, as the chickens’ owner wept, Noem repeatedly apologised, wrote the shocked family a check “for the price they asked, and helped them dispose of the carcasses littering the scene of the crime”.
Through it all, Noem says, Cricket was “the picture of pure joy”.
“I hated that dog,” Noem writes, adding that Cricket had proved herself “untrainable”, “dangerous to anyone she came in contact with” and “less than worthless … as a hunting dog”.
“At that moment,” Noem says, “I realised I had to put her down.”

I shot a sick dog once
Won’t ever do it again
“Gov. Noem is doing a great job in SD..”
Those of us who live there will take issue with that statement, but we’ll not denigrate her in public when she isn’t there to defend herself.
“I like vacationing in SD and I would prefer she stay there rather than take a VP slot.”
We stand in agreement with that statement for the good of the country.
South Dakota looks to me like one of if not the best run out of 50 states and a few territories.
Conservative citizens of the State might disagree with you, but if there is any thanks to be given, the Legislature, should get the credit. It is not very conservative either, but managed to keep the State open during Covid.
Estrogen claws are out on this one
Good job
Jesus, amazing to see all the latent psychopaths on FR come out of the woodwork to admit that they shoot dogs.
A dog that attacks or kills poultry or livestock in the countryside is a liability. That you would decry decent folk as "psychopaths" for putting down such an animal is not warranted.
Your blinders are on very tight.
I don’t know if it was in her book or in a twitter post, but she said something like “I guess including this in the book doesn’t make me a good politician - well so be it.”
Unless she figures that the story would get out someday by a political enemy, and she wanted to get out in front of the story.
Yeah she did a "great job" vetoing bills to keep faggotists and trannies out of girls locker rooms.
She also did a great job of commiting adultry with Corey Lewandowski
Here's hoping this takes the phoney bitch out.
But everyone here acting as if it’s 1925 and your only option is shooting $1,000 hunting dog in the head “down in the gravel pit” is your only option for a dog, while you’re living on a $2 million ranch, is postering.
The dog story helped doing Romney’s chances. I don’t think I’d use that as a defense here.
Seethe more, doofus.
Your little poser Kristi Moem capped her political career like Old Yeller
Noem is just garbage. Pure trash
Surprised The Guardian’s headline wasn’t “Noem, Like Hitler, Killed Her Own Dog.”
Agree
You lost all credibility with this statement. No hunter wants a dog who will eat the bird he just shot. A hunting dog is not going to go after birds ( chickens). A pointer will indicate where the birds are in the field. A retriever will gently pick up the bird with a “soft” mouth that does not damage it to bring it back to the hunter.
Exactly. Whether she puts down a dangerous dog is one thing (sometimes it has to be done), but being VP or Potus is quite another thing. That said, this article was written primarily to distort people’s thinking and just air dirt. Folks end up arguing in circles. It’s a custom that goes far back. Take a look at some of the articles in the papers dating back to the 1800s. LMAO.
I can understand why you might think that.
