Mike Pinder, original keyboardist for The Moody Blues in both their original mid-1960s configuration as a pop/blues outfit and their better-known late-1960s/early-1970s gentle progressive rock quintet entity, died in his Northern California home on April 25, 2024, from an as-yet unstated cause. Pinder was 82.

I was more of a fan of the early era lineup when Denny Laine - who passed away a couple of months ago - was the vocalist/guitarist and Mike Pinder played piano. (pre-Mellotron days) Mike inspired me to start fiddling with piano.
To this very day, whenever I find myself in a mostly-empty room where there’s a piano, my fingers instinctively contort into an inverted Ab chord shape, and I have to play those descending left hand notes that punctuate the intro to Go Now. I just can’t help myself. 😉
“I don’t want to see you go (Denny and Mike) but you had better Go Now”… 🫤

The Story In Your Eyes is my favorite.
Justin Hayward doesn’t get enough recognition as a guitar player.

I remember Timothy Leary giving a lecture at Mandel Hall at U of Chicago. He was actively around in the 1960s so wouldn’t have been difficult to find. Tom Lehrer was also from Harvard and was active in around the same timeframe.

Yes I saw that from God luvs America’s post. I will have to give it a listen, now that I know that. 🙂👍

RIP Mike Pinder. Meaningful lyrics and moving keyboard. Only the
Blue Jays remain.

I loved the Moody Blues in the 60s and have all their early CDs today.
What was funny was during the early 80s I was engaged to a 19 year old Welsh girl and during a phone call from Wales she asked me if I had ever heard the new song Tuesday Afternoon by The Moody blues, she thought it was fantastic and said everyone there was listening to it.

My favorite band of all time. RIP Mike.
Sad to see so many rockers of my youth pass away.

One of my all time favorite Moody Blues songs...Seventh Sojourn is an incredible album and the second side of that LP stands up to anything ever produced...sadly it was the last really good LP with Pinder as he was not into Octave and left the band soon after...

"Master of the Mellotron" is correct.
You can really hear/feel the Mellotron on Melancholy Man. I heard Nights in White Satin on a "45" way long ago and I was hooked.

The best Mellotron is Tony Banks on the intro of “Watcher Of The Skies”.
