Somewhere I read that the California assault weapons ban follows California residents around. In other words they can’t buy a 30 round magazine in Nevada and keep it in Nevada.

This is a similar situation. Is this correct?

I don’t know the answer to your question. Since there is no background check or registration of a magazine, I don’t see how California would know what happened in Nevada. I don’t see how California would have jurisdiction, but California is crazy so I don’t know what they might try.

California has no jurisdiction in Nevada. And a California resident is just that. He is not a “subject” of California. California is not a sovereign government. I doubt any law like that would survive a challenge.
