He shot her when she was trying to leave. This will not end well for him.

He is claiming “self defense”. He chased her away, and then blocked her exit.

What a tragedy! If he thought she was going to get a gun, all he had to do was get back into his house, lock the door and call 911.

That’s point blank range. If he’d used a Byrna she’d be alive with maybe minor injuries, and he’d probably be able to get off with probation.

The scammers deserve accessory to murder.

Poor lady. She limped as she walked. Looks like Uber was a job she could do with a disability, and to be thrown into a situation like this. Horrible for both families, and to have both lives destroyed by some freak show. Scammer needs to be found and removed.

Idiot.

Why didn’t he call the police FIRST. Why didn’t he call the police after she arrived.

Why was bail set so low?!

A confusing and tragic story, full of panic driven actions, where the outcome can never be changed.

He should blame Hollywood and say he watched “The Bee Keeper” and was in fear of his life.

> The scammers deserve accessory to murder. <

Yep. But there’s a good chance that the scammers are in India, and so are beyond the reach of American law.

My guess is that this poor Uber driver was meant to deliver the old man’s money to a local “money mule”. The money mule would take a cut, then forward the rest to the scammers in India. Bitcoin is a common method of doing so.

It’s possible that the money mule is also a dupe, fooled into thinking he’s part of some sort of legitimate business.

What really bothers me is how little our government cares about stopping these terrible scammers. We can put a man on the Moon. Yet we can’t seem to stop these criminals. Hell, we don’t even bother to warn the public.

As a side note, there are hero folks on YouTube who call-flood these scammers, and so disrupt their business. Why can’t our government do the same?

The death penalty should be applied.

So someone called the old guy, tells him they are gonna kill him if he doesn’t give them money to bounce a relative out of jail, and that they will send an accomplice to pick up the loot, so he better pay up. They then hire an Uber driver, who is not an accomplice to go and get the loot. He sees the girl show up, asking for the package. Now he is not crazy, assuming this is part of a gang, and that she is lying and may have dropped off others nearby to ambush him, so he holds her at gunpoint while he tries to figure out what to do. I can see where the old guy is coming from, although perhaps he went too far. The Uber driver was just another victim. The scammer is really responsible for the whole situation.

Since this is an NBC affiliate report, I will reserve judgement until we know all the facts.

What we do know is:

1.Mr Brock behaved recklessly w/a firearm and showed overall poor judgement

2. The ultimate victim appears to be totally innocent

3. The scammer(s) are greatly responsible for this chain of events

What we don’t know:

1. What was/is Brock’s mental state?

2. How did Brock receive the injuries to his head and ear (which are cited but left totally unexplained) and did those injuries occur before or after the first shot was fired?

Scammers probably told him the driver was their accomplice.
Or he told the scammer he was going to pay in the belief he could trap the scammer, but he, probably not knowing much about today’s services, failed to consider that the scammer could send some unwitting soul to his house instead of showing up in person to get the money.

Like in the SWATting pranks, where the SWAT teams have no idea the call is a hoax, she had no way to know she was sent by a scammer or would receive a hostile reception.

I hope they extradite the scammers for felony murder from India or where ever, like they did those Nigerians who caused the 17-year-old kid to commit suicide.
