I think in many jurisdictions they could be charged with what is called "felony murder"; that is, they were committing a felony which resulted in the death of a person.
Felony murder. But for their idiotic scam, the victim would be alive today. Participation in a felony that results in a person's death is felony murder, regardless of how indirect the participant's role. The getaway drive at gas station hold up resulting in death, is legally guilty of murder.
