It’s one of the greatest. Arguably an equal to Freebird, esp. with 3 lead guitars playing.
To: DallasBiff
Good list. I also like “Gator Country” by Molly Hatchet. That would be in my top 10 along with “Flirtin’ With Disaster”.

Best cut off that debut Lynyrd Skynyrd album was “Things Goin’ On”. Very underrated track.

The “feud” between Neil Young and Lynyrd Skynyrd was overdone. Actually the reference to Neil in “Sweet Home Alabama” was intended to be complimentary to Neil.

I do love me some Humble Pie! 30 Days in the Hole always goes up to 11 on the amplifier!
BTW: #1 and #2 need to swap places.

I have to ❤️ your comment. “Flirting’ with Disaster” is a great one!
Has anyone mentioned Mudcrutch’s “Lover of the Bayou”? I know it’s not a big hit, but it is a great piece Southern rock to me.

Tom Petty, my favorite southern rocker (Gainesville) of all time.
To: FamiliarFace
Yes, some of Petty's songs do edge over into the country and southern rock genre, especially the Mudcrutch tunes. He seemed to weed them out of the Heartbreakers albums, though - very deliberate on his part, preferring a mix of various rock influences instead of favoring one regional style or genre.
This tune really should have been on the '80s "Southern Accents" album. Mike Campbell has that southern rock guitar tone dialed in perfectly.

And “Blue Sky” is THE best Allman Brothers song! It's tough to keep from smiling when that song comes up in shuffle play, definitely one of the best from their peak. A later tune that I've grown to like quite a lot is "No One To Run With".

I appreciate your enthusiasm.
First time I saw them was a hole in the wall saloon called the silver dollar. 1972-73. Charlotte NC.
I was playing in the regional foosball tournament for a seed in Denver.
Unfortunately, Uncle Sam intervened.

Why would Biily Idol be considered Southern rock? Rebel Yell? Is he from the south of England?
I wonder where Creedence Clearwater Revival fits in. Pseudo-Southern rock? They’re California boys, but they had a southern vibe.

You didn’t mention you were watching TP as the headliner. Mighta changed who I posted to. Though Mudcrutch didn’t reunite until 2008 or something around there. I’m not sure what year it was though I *should* know.
