DeSantis enacts free skin cancer screenings for state employees

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law on Friday mandating annual skin cancer screenings for more than 300,000 state employees and their families at no out-of-pocket cost.

The law, sponsored by Rep. Ralph Massullo, a dermatologist by trade, stipulates that the state group health insurance plan managed by the Division of State Group Insurance must cover skin cancer screenings conducted by dermatologists, physician assistants, or advanced registered practice nurses, without requiring deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, or any other form of cost-sharing.

Love to read these threads you post that serve as chum to attract those suffering from DeSantis Derangement Syndrome. It’s funny to see their “feeding frenzy”.

Why do 300,000 state employees and their families deserve this “free” (i.e., taxpayer paid) skin cancer screening while the rest of the Florida citizens do not?

Besides 300,000 state employees and their families, who else benefits, especially financially, from the taxpayer funds spent for this state perk?

Why just “free” skin cancer tests, and not tests for other kinds of common cancers such as breast, prostate, lung, and colorectal cancers?

In this case, it will be important to “follow the money”!!

Livin’ rent-free in yer head.

Again.

Your sick obsession with Gov. DeSantis (spelling counts, troll-boy) is very disturbing. Seek help.

1. Florida is known as the Sunshine State.
2. Skin cancer is an awful disease, painful and deadly.
3. Many state employees workout side or are otherwise exposed.
4. Are you an idiot?

Taxpayers, indirectly. Around here dermatologists will occasionally offer free screenings. Great for generating a little high dollar business.

Update: DeSantis cures cancer. Those with DeSantis Derangement Syndrome complain about loss of jobs in the funeral business.

I’m thinking state ees have kick-ass health insurance benefits. I know I did when I was a government employee.
This little extra goodie makes no sense to me.

Only an idiot would be in favor of this socialist-leaning gesture.

Might want to shop for a better policy. Mine always covered a prostate screening as part of the annual physical (no copay for the physical) and Texas law already requires breast and cervical cancer screenings be covered. Obamacare policies also cover an annual mammogram.

I love it here in FL.

And I like DeSantis.

But I don’t think I should have to pay for state employees to enjoy “special” benefits. They already get aggressive retirement benefits unusual in the job market.

Does anyone know if they are unionized?

Someone is going to call this racist because it will primarily benefit people with low melanin.

"Why just “free” skin cancer tests, and not tests for other kinds of common cancers such as breast, prostate, lung, and colorectal cancers?"
Why? Because skin cancers are a special problem in the "Sunshine State" and precancerous lesions are cheaply and easily treated if caught early.

🙄

Of course, if desanctimonious wasn't buying off the state employees and their families, and was really looking out for them....

he would have done it as part of a change to the employee benefits 6 years ago, when he first became governor....

instead of when he needs all the support he can get, and do it by signing a law......

stupid gaslighters trying to prop desanctus up....
