What Liberals Get Wrong About ‘White Rural Rage’ — Almost Everything
Politico ^

Posted on 04/06/2024 6:20:07 AM PDT by Tench_Coxe

If you’ve been watching television or tracking trending topics over the last few weeks, you’ve probably seen or read something about “white rural rage.” This is owed to the publication of a new book, White Rural Rage, by Tom Schaller and Paul Waldman, whose thesis is that white rural Americans, despite representing just 16 percent of the American electorate, are a “threat to the world’s oldest constitutional democracy.”

Who do they think is going to do their dirty work for them?

Maybe a million or two of the military age men who have illegally entered this country over the last 3.5 years. Many of them would enjoy the killing.

Alex Jones is all over this. Trump is right. The target is self reliant types not in cities who don’t see the need for a babysitter government. We are on our way to being purged.

It is far simpler, liberal elites believe that anyone who who doesn’t live in the liberal utopias on the east and west coasts and espouse their liberal viewpoint are knuckle dragging idiots who are incapable of making the “ right” decisions in their lives. Therefore the liberal elites must make these decisions for them. The liberal elites also view those in flyover country with utter contempt …remember Obama’s “ bitter clingers” or Hillary’s “ basket of deplorables”?

However, what the liberal elites miss is that these “ deplorables” put food on their tables, keep their store shelves full, deliverer goods across the country , fix their cars and toilets and manufacture many of the luxuries they take for granted.

I read the article (maybe one should not admit that, tho’) and thought he made a really good point:

Reasonable people resent ... irrational people rage. Reasonable people can be engaged.

Also interesting that that author felt his work was mis-used in the book.

It is farmers in Europe that have shut down roads and thoroughfares and dumped tons of crap on lawns in protest agaisnt green policies that the left have implemented and caused the policy ma,ers to rethink their attacks on said farmers.

In the end times, there Wil. Be a ramped up effort to wage war agaisnt farmers and rural folks to force people I to “15 minute cities” so that authorities can keep a watchful eye on them. But for now. If you mess with farmers, famin3s will soon break out, and ana4chy will rule- we got a glimpse of it during the covid scam when people turned on their neighbors in a matter of months when groceries began to become scarce. It got pretty ugly, UT nowhere near as ugly as when there will be hardly any food to refill the isles, and people begin to panic, causing many to turn to crime in order to just feed their families.

It’s a good article, especially coming from Politico. The money paragraph:

Bottom line: The “threats” to democracy just aren’t there. Our research found that just 27 percent of rural voters — including 23 percent of rural Trump voters — think that if the opposing candidate wins in November, “people will need to take drastic action in order to stop [Biden or Trump] from taking office.” That’s the exact same proportion — 27 percent — as voters in urban and suburban areas who hold the same view. Nor are rural voters more likely than urban voters to say that the opposing party is a “threat to the future of America;” while 38 percent of rural Trump voters strongly believe that about Democrats, 36 percent of nonrural Biden voters think that same thing about Republicans.

I’ll repeat myself. The far left progressives are actually lily white. Nearly seven-in-ten Progressive Left (68%) are White adults, making this group less racially and ethnically diverse than the other Democratic-oriented groups.

Yet, these chiefly white folks hold extremist views not JUST on race…

…but on a plethora of matters. Indeed, this lot holds more extreme views overall than those held by more racially-diverse Dem groups.

These whites live in enclaves in cities, prefer going to museums over going to the range, and think religion is sophistry. Their policies and language all reek of a Superiority Complex.

The REAL intent behind the “rage” lie they push, is provocation. The provocateurs on the left blame rurals, their cousins on the right blame the urbanites. I’ve seen this movie before. The question is: will we ants recognize the TRUE fiend?

Liberals get it wrong because the truth means nothing to them - see Tagline. Agenda is everything to them.

“There are countries that are better than the US”

That puzzles me. If they think European countries are better off than the US, why are they importing so many people from other parts of the world?

I would have said, if they want the US to be like Sweden or France, why are they importing Venezuela, but Sweden and France aren’t what they used to be either.

Notice though, that most Democrats don’t agree than other countries are better than the US. Why they are supporting Biden’s immigration policy is even more of a mystery.

the author Jacobs attempts to decipher what most all liberals think is baffling — that “rural America” seems to be willing to “vote against it’s own interests” given all the things government wants to do for them. What the liberals never get is that there are values more important to Americans than mere government handouts.

Their claim, if I understand psychotic leftists, is that if you aren’t soft on crime then you are an authoritarian and a threat to the country.

What are the chances these authors, from New York, have ever been to - or talked to anyone from - the midwest?

All of this is sneering speculation about an area and group of people they know nothing about.

For those who don’t read the article:
The author criticizes another author’s book that assumes all rural whites are racist/homophobe/etc. rubes who vote Republican because they are racist/homophobe/etc. rubes.

The author accepts the premise that they are all racist/homophobe/etc. rubes but says they also vote Republican because of their location and the resulting tendency to be self-reliant.

The author also points out that rural whites are fools who don’t understand that Democrat policies are really good for them.

(How did I do at summarizing?)

The Left’s support is concentrated in urban areas.

“White Rural Rage”, both the book and concept, is an operation to isolate, demonize, and destroy those who resist totalitarianism. Democrats rely on division and projection as favored tactics.

Compare crime rates for America’s rural areas versus big cities to quickly see who is enraged and dangerous.

Liberals get everything about the right wrong.

They are tilting at windmills.

They are fighting their fabricated image of what they think conservatives and rural folks are all about. It has no basis in reality.

You got it fairly correct. The author of the Politico article takes a view that I loosely call the Jane Goodall approach—largely academic, looking at fellow humans like one would observe animals at the zoo.

Am I white?

-yes

Am I rural?

-yes

Is there anything wrong with that? NO! (your food depends on me, unless you like eating bugs)

I am FEELING triggered.

Is that ‘rage’?

I think the left is confirming THEY are the racist, and, at the same time, classist.

In other words THEY are not acknowledging the constitutional right to property. And they are at the same time acknowledging that THEY

,,, are

,,, “Communist”

-period-

This is the point of civil war.

It would be like undertaking a book-length study demonizing Irish people, refusing to define what you mean by Irish, and then drawing on studies of native Irish in Ireland, non-Irish immigrants to Ireland, Irish Americans, people who took a 23andMe DNA test that showed Irish ancestry, and Bostonians who get drunk on Saint Patrick’s Day to build your argument about the singular danger of “the Irish.” It’s preposterous.

Well that kills the sociology paper I was working on.

Instead of reckoning with the ugly fact that a threat to our democracy is emerging from right-wing extremists in suburban and urban areas, the authors of White Rural Rage contorted studies and called unambiguously metro areas “rural” so that they could tell an all-too-familiar story about scary hillbillies. Perhaps this was easier than confronting the truth: that the call is coming from inside the house. It is not primarily the rural poor, but often successful, white metropolitan men who imperil our republic.

Hey, I resemble that remark.

More seriously, even the author of this critical review start with the assumption that the right wing is the threat to "Our Democracy"®™ he completely ignores that most of the political (and other) violence is from the left wing. The left was burning down cities, implementing Antifa's authoritarian anarchy, violently taking over part of Seattle to declare an autonomous zone, occupying Wall Street and releasing thousands of criminals and millions of illegals.
