‘She’s much more who she is,’ her husband told EWTN News, following Tammy’s ‘investigation of Catholicism.’
Psychologist and author Jordan Peterson spoke about Easter as the “core story of humanity” in an interview with EWTN News In Depth hours before his wife, Tammy, joined the Catholic Church this Easter at Holy Rosary Church in Toronto.
Tammy Peterson’s faith was formed through praying the Rosary while she struggled against a rare form of cancer. Peterson is known for his biblical lectures on Genesis and Exodus in particular, which often appeal to both Christian and secular listeners.
When asked by EWTN News correspondent Colm Flynn about what he thought about the Christian Easter message, Peterson said that it’s “the core story of humanity.”
“I’ll speak psychologically about it and speak in terms of its literary echoes,” he said. “It’s a variant of the dragon-and-treasure story, which is the oldest story we have. It’s the core story of humanity in some fundamental sense — that in the darkest places, what’s of most value can be found.”
Peterson noted that he was “not going to delve into theological matters” but that, “speaking strictly psychologically,” the Easter story describes “the worst that life and death can throw at us,” but then offers a “promise.”
“The promise in the story is that, if that’s undertaken wholeheartedly, the consequence is redemptive, transformative and redemptive,” he said. “A resurrection of the spirit, a resurrection of the spirit eternally — that’s the promise.”
When asked what the cross meant to him, Peterson said that “it’s the point where everything comes together.”
“It’s the agony of life,” he continued. “With God’s grace, you might say that the triumph of life, in the face of agony, in the face of malevolence, that’s what it is.”

He kept the Sabbath before His resurrection, then He fulfilled it.
From His resurrection onwards, we Christians celebrate the Lord’s Day on the first day of the week.
Sabbatarians are not Christ believers
From His resurrection onwards, we Christians celebrate the Lord’s Day on the first day of the week.
Who has commanded this? By whose authority? Chapter and verse.
Sabbatarians are not Christ believers
Unsubstantiated lie. This goes against everything in the Bible.
The Mosaic law applied only to the Jews. It was to keep them separate from the other nations as well as to point to the coming Messiah and prepare them as a nation to welcome Him. This event has passed and is no longer applicable.
The Ten Commandments has been in place from the beginning and will continue throughout eternity. Jesus' own Words "Think not that I am to destroy the Law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy but to fulfill. For verily I say to you (Cronos), Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or tittle shall in NO WAY pass from the Law, till all be fulfilled
Look out side, Heaven and earth have not passed. They are still here.
Perhaps English is difficult for you -- I write "the ceremonial aspect of the old law—the Sabbath day itself"
The Sabbath day was the ceremonial aspect of the keeping the Lord's day holy
ceremonial, ceremonious, formal, conventional mean marked by attention to or adhering strictly to prescribed forms. ceremonial and ceremonious both imply strict attention to what is prescribed by custom or by ritual, but ceremonial applies to things that are associated with ceremonies
Col. 2:16-17 16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.
This says it very clearly - for Christians, Sabbath days were a shadow foreshadowing the first coming of the Christ
For Christians, we now worship the Lord on the FIRST day of the New covenant
For Christians, we now worship the Lord on the FIRST day of the New covenant
On whose authority? Where is the command from God? Who told you to worship on that day instead of the Sabbath? Tell me o clever one. Don't tell me He arose on the first day to honor Him. He plainly stated "IF you love Me, keep My Commandments".
On whose authority do Christians worship the Lord on the FIRST day of the New covenant?
On the authority of God.
God rose on the 1st day of the week to signify a New covenant.
If you do not do that, then you are one of those fallen away against whom the apostles were commanded to oppose.
Sabbatarians are not Christ followers
The only Commandment not repeated in the New Testament, in the Age Of Grace:
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy”.
Anyhow, does it really matter? As long as the doctrine of soteriology is the foundation of the Christian, this focus on the day of the week seems very legalistic.
I think Sunday is the way to go, but others in my denomination have other ideas. Seventh Day Baptists began in the 1600s, and in my family’s neck of the woods there used to be a large contingent of them. (The reason Mom’s church is called “First Day Baptist”.)
Their belief of salvation is sound. They’re no less saved than those who worship on Sunday. You can be a person who doesn’t officially worship on any specific day, at any specific place, and be a Christian. Legalism can cloud and overshadow what’s important.
“The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing”,i.e., salvation. (No, it’s not in the Bible.)
That may have been the same question Adam and Eve had over the apple. It seemed like a small thing.
It matters to God and that should mean something. That should carry weight. We all have to be accountable to God and IF He asks you why didn't you obey His Ten Commandments, what will your answer be? You know the verses "IF you love Me, keep my Commandments" and many others and the excuse may sound pretty lame on that great and fearsome day.
Whom does He tell "Depart from Me, I never knew you?" Atheists? No Agnostics? No These are people claiming, grace, miracles in His name and the right soteriology. They are completely shocked.
Going to church on Sunday has nothing to do with salvation.
A Pharisee would say that though.
I absolutely agree.
The Truth will make you free.
Adam and Eve predated the Age Of Grace. All new rules.
Wrong.
#1 protestants and devotionals and other groups can have their own caucuses. It's not limited to just Catholics.
#2 recognize Catholics are special. Different rules and different gate into Heaven.
#3 Catholics have a Pope and you don't. Get over it. Not much of one but what can they do?
