Everything in the name of climate change
American Thinker ^ | 2 Apr, 2024 | Silvio Canto, Jr.

Once again, the ideologues are running the show.

Years ago, Fidel Castro would often say everything we do is in the name of the revolution. It was his way of justifying stupid decisions such as destroying the private sector, expropriating private property, and shutting down newspapers. Everything was done in the name of the revolution.

Well, Fidel has a new disciple. His name is Joe Biden, who apparently will do anything in the name of climate change. The latest is electric trucks, those big machines who transport everything from coast to coast.

This is from the Wall Street Journal:

The Environmental Protection Agency chose Good Friday to roll out its burdensome electric truck mandate, no doubt so fewer people notice. Biden officials well know the damage they are doing, but the damage in the name of climate change is the point.

EPA’s new emissions standards for heavy-duty trucks will effectively require that electric semi-trucks make up an increasing share of manufacturer sales from 2027 through 2032, similar to its recent rule for passenger cars. The difference is that the truck mandate is even more costly and fanciful.

Costly? Remember, everything in the name of climate change.

As the article points out, the EPA will "require electric models to account for 60% of new urban delivery trucks and 25% of long-haul tractor sales by 2032."

Again, are we ready for such a remarkable mandate? 2032 is a lot closer than we may realize. Again, anything for climate change, even if the climate benefit is not obvious to everyone.

It is not about “climate change”. It is all about the revolution.

If Biden wins in November, the march toward EV's and the elimination of gas-powered cars will accelerate. Say goodbye to meat as well.

Even though these are untenable concepts, the Marxist totalitarian U.S. government will force it down our throats. We'll be walking, riding bicycles, and eating bugs.

“It is not about “climate change”

Indeed, the right has allowed ‘climate change’ to be a replacement for ‘global warming’ as this does not fit their narrative. Typical for the right to cave into the left’s dialogue much like the Brit rag DM does calling a man a woman. (LOL on this monthly rant)

“it” is neutral and shouldn’t raise any complaints right?

The proposed design for “electric trucks” is a non-starter. Using batteries as the storage of electrical energy on-board places far too much reliance on the development of a battery array that has as much energy per pound as Diesel fuel/hydrogen/compressed natural gas.

Now, a combination of a Diesel ICE with an on-board generator to drive the traction wheels (which could be on all five axles) makes more sense, economically and from an engineering standpoint. But hydrocarbon fuel is still a necessity, and the national commerce is going to be dependent on such hydrocarbon fuel for the next century, or at least until a nuclear powered on-board generator can be engineered. (The Mr. Fusion generator in “Back to the Future” series)

Battery arrays to provide power for a road vehicle of any kind is a niche product, and essentially a dead end in terms of mass acceptance. The infrastructure is simply not there to support such a course of action.

Yes,
Just think about the energy needed to haul that battery around!

The climate change scam has pulled in more money and fed rule changes then any scam ever made.

EVs have their place, as do ICE vehicles.

I have a book from the early 1900s on the troubleshooting and repair of them. At that time, long distance movement of people and goods was by train or boat. Then getting those to their final destinations, or to the train or boat in the first place was by horse powered wagon or carriage or electric truck or car.

We should have kept on using the EVs all along for short distance local transport of people, goods and for services.

They primarily used Edison batteries which actually get better with time and use nickel and iron, not expensive rare earth materials.

By using EVs in urban areas, you move the pollution and other problems of generating the power outside of the urban area rather than concentrating it in the urban area.

EVs so far make no sense for those of us in rural areas or who otherwise drive long distances, especially for long distance trucking.

Logistical arguments are pointless. The point of the regulations is to make trucking economically infeasible. When the deck has been cleared politically favored companies will be granted waivers to operate outside the regulations.
