Dali size containership steering system. How it’s designed to not hit Francis Scott key bridge. From Youtube
Evil is getting stronger in the world... There was a time I might have laughed this off - that time is no more. It's possible. Time will tell.
Why would the entire system go down if some refrigerator systems overloaded? Isn’t the point of circuit breakers to isolate and thus identify a problem?
Shim was so Divine.
I was working on the nuclear Columbia Generating Plant (WPPSS Plant #2) during the TMI incident. The NRC came out with new guidelines for emergency diesel generators for all nukes either active or under construction which included routine maintenance and monthly startup and operation to make sure they fired up when they were needed. Prior to that the industry just took them for granted. At plant 2 they had 2 generators plus a backup to that so 3 generators total
It will be interesting to see if this ship’s backup generators failed to fire up when called on and what level of maintenance they were kept in.
At first, I attributed the turn to starboard - being caused by an attempt to use Reverse, thus resulting in a “prop walk” of the stern to port. Aggravated by the wind of 8 knots from due east (approaching the port side of the ship at an angle of 40 - 45 degrees) - the wind being reported by buoy FSKM2.
But there was not enough time for a successful command completion and steps setting the ship into Reverse.
Next, I attributed the turn to starboard - because of the Curtis Bay Channel current approaching from the west and the wind from the east (approaching the port side of the ship at an angle of 40 - 45 degrees).
But, when running the video again, and also at high speed, with the ship closing upon the bridge, MF Dali made a 14 - 17 degree, turn to starboard.
And the ship “bee lined it” to the bridge support . . . except for a miniscule correction of the bow to port just a few seconds from impact - that was probably caused by the bow bulb burrowing thru the harbor bottom that built up over time near that bridge structure.
Could have all been a series of things happening, NOT in favor of the bridge nor the ship nor the people involved.
Maybe.
There’s a similar story about the Titanic/Olympic. I don’t know about the sex trafficking though.
Ooops...CRUNCH CRASH BOOM ZAP.
Hell of a way to buy a bridge.
That is a very bad link - my browser shuts off when trying it.
“I read somewhere” ????
Where, cite the source.
The ship in question is still there at the wreck site. IS it the Dali or is it not? IS it one of the 13 EVERGREEN ships or is it not? The two ships are vastly different from each other. Essentially, the Evergreen ships are much bigger, longer, than the Dali. Somebody LOOK at the ship and ignore the painted-on NAME! Which ship IS it, REALLY? Nobody has taken the ship away and hidden it....yet! Which ship is it? No point in getting in a huff about it. The ship is still there. Which one IS it?
Well, I imagine we’ll hear from the insurer of the Dali if it’s nother Dali. So far we’re only hearing silence relative to your questions. Just sayin’.
I did a little checking. The Dali is 985 ft long. Evergreen ships are over 1300 ft long. They are made considerably differently. Plus, the EVERGREEN ships have the name plastered the whole length of the sides of the ship. I have not seen a good photo of the actual ship that wrecked the Key Bridge. It’s looking like what I heard may not have been accurate. If not; I apologize. But the ship is still stuck in the Chesapeake. Which one is it; an Evergreen, or The Dali?
If you’re asking me, it’s the Dali.
I found a photo of the wreck site online and I think the ship IS the Dali. Amazing! I’m 84 years old and I just learned AGAIN, not to believe strangers. Oi!
The MV Dali main propulsion is a MAN-B&W Diesel-Turbo 9S90ME-C9.2 Super-Long-2-Stroke, Electronicaly-Conrolled, High-Torque, 9-cylinder Engine, featuring lower propeller speeds. The engine operates in Forward and Reverse, and is built by two-stroke engine builder Hyundai Heavy Industries.
