CNN’s Manu Raju reported over the weekend from Appomattox, Virginia on the effort inside the House GOP to oust one of its own, Rep. Bob Good (R-VA), who is the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus.
Raju both aired his report on CNN’s Inside Politics Sunday and published an article on CNN.com detailing the various House Republicans openly campaigning in support of Good’s GOP primary opponent, state Sen. John McGuire. Raju noted that campaigning openly against a House colleague is “a tactic long viewed as a serious breach of protocol but one that underscores the bad blood within the House GOP.”
Raju opened his article, writing simply, “Rep. Derrick Van Orden is done with Rep. Bob Good.”
“Bob Good didn’t come here to govern. He came here to be famous,” Van Orden told Raju on camera from the Capitol. “Bob Good’s wearing our jersey, and he’s not on the team.”
“If you look at what we have not been able to accomplish in this Congress, it’s predominantly because of Bob Good and his ilk,” added Van Orden, a conservative Republican from Wisconsin.
Raju joined Good at a campaign stop in Appomattox and pressed the hardliner on Van Orden’s criticism.
“They’ve never heard of Derrick Van Orden. They could care less what Derrick Van Orden thinks,” Good snapped at Raju.
“You come to these things, and you ask questions that nobody here cares about. You bring up Derrick Van Orden, which is a joke,” added Good, who also scolded Raju for asking “stupid” questions.
“RINOs, establishment moderates do nothing to influence Republican primary elections. Conservative, courageous warriors like those endorsing me today and being here with me today are the ones who my constituents care about,” Good concluded, sounding confident that the GOP primary electorate will reward his antics.
Good has been joined on the campaign trail by some of his allies in the hard right of the GOP, including Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Andy Biggs (R-AZ).
“This is the most important primary in the country,” Gaetz told CNN, adding:
Bob is our masthead. Bob Good is our leader among House conservatives to get us on the same page to ensure that it is the people’s interests that rise above the special interests. They know that they hate us. But you know what, there are more of us.
Good, however, has split the pro-MAGA wing of the House GOP as some of the most pro-Trump voices in the House have joined the effort to see him ousted.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) endorsed McGuire and fumed that Good “cannot be trusted and will work against Trump.” Good ruffled a lot of feathers in DC when he voted to remove Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) last year as speaker of the House.
Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT), who served in Trump’s cabinet, has also endorsed McGuire, saying, “We can do a lot better than Good, we can do great.”
McGuire has railed against Good and his tenure of obstruction in Congress, calling him “embarrassing” and his attacks on other Republicans “so childish.”
“I believe that my opponent wants to burn it all down, no solutions kind of guy. I think that we need leaders that want to grow the party and unite our country,” McGuire said of Good, according to CNN.
I honestly don't recall the last time an incumbent's primary opponent was endorsed by another incumbent, but it might have happened on the other side of the aisle with the progressive caucus.
If in fact these are conservatives that are jockeying for position - good. May the best MAGA man win.
For far too long we have had RINO’s outdoing themselves to remove conservatism from the GOP.
Not sure why you find this surprising.
We just had a GOP presidential primary where the incumbent nominee was challenged. In fact in that primary Bob Good supported the challenger to the incumbent nominee.

Two conservative my behind. I see one RINO & 1 conservative.
There are meaningful, revealing buzzphrases in the verbage.
When you hear a GOP guy saying, he’s just here to burn it all down and have no solutions. I’m in favor of accomplishing things.
You can stop right there. “Accomplishing things” has generated $36T in debt. No, it wasn’t Dems who did that debt. Those debt ceiling votes were all bipartisan.
Conservatism is not Getting Things Done. It is NOT Getting Things Done. Getting things done means government activity, which will inevitably intrude into your life. Conservatism is opposing all this.
So when you hear people talking about coming to Washington to govern and get things done, they aren’t conservatives.
The Bush-Cheney faction dug their claws deep into the GOP Establishment for years, and this excising always had to happen as they moved left.

Well?, which was it?
Goode is the good conservative. Van Orden is the party RINO.
Good’s GOP primary opponent is John McGuire, not Van Orden.
Which is the "Bush-Cheney faction" referenced in the article that are at war? MTG or Matt Gaetz?
I think his point was Van Orden’s opposition to Good.
But, he isn’t the only one against Good mentioned in the article.
Civil war might be too sensational, but it's an interesting split among the most conservative House members.

So, yes Republican Wildcat you are correct. I was talking about the incumbent Van Orden’s opposition to Goode. Van Orden is a RINO. Goode is a solid conservative. Thus, I assume that Goode's opponent is another RINO.
Miam Rebel was wrong to grace Van Orden with the conservative label. 🙂
I’ll admit I didn’t read the article, because I assumed that’s the only GOP Civil War in the GOP worth talking about, not Mediaite trying to stir up trouble.
I realize that.
But more importantly, what is McGuires MAGA and conservative rating?
Add to that, this article is CNN and Mediaite trying to start a Civil War.
I don't know what his rating was, because I didn't look. The only thing above 99, would be 100. If t's 100 use him to replace Rep. Derrick Van Orden. 🙂
As for CNN & Mediaite, did they somehow convince Rep. Derrick Van Orden to endorse Good's opponent? 🙂
BTW, I erroneously spelled Good's name Goode, because there used to be a Goode from down that way when I lived in Northern Virginia, & I thought this guy had to be related to Virgil Goode in some form or fashion, and he was a good conservative also, & he too served as a member for the same 5th district as Bob Good is now. 🙂
My bad. That's what I get for trying to overthink the name aspect. 🙂
Virgil Hamlin Goode Jr. (born October 17, 1946) is an American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 5th congressional district of Virginia from 1997 to 2009
