Kombucha tea is a fermented, sweetened black tea drink that could help with fat loss according to experts
Researchers have claimed that one particular type of tea can help you lose weight without 'trying'. Kombucha tea can mimic the effects of fasting in the body, according to the new study.
This means people may be able to lose fat without changing their diet. Researchers have discovered that the microbes in the fermented drink make changes to fat metabolism in the intestines that are similar to the effects of fasting.
But what exactly is Kombucha? It is a sweetened, fermented tea that has surged in popularity recently. You may have seen it being sold in cafes and on supermarket shelves.
Its popularity is partly due to its supposed health benefits. This include lowering blood pressure, preventing cancer and protecting against metabolic disease and liver toxins.
The trendy fizzy tea has reportedly become a favourite amongst celebrities. Madonna, Halle Berry, Lindsay Lohan, and Gwyneth Paltrow have all been claimed to regularly enjoy the beverage.
Kombucha tea's health benefits are believed to come from the drink’s probiotic microbes and their effects on metabolism. But the associated health claims have not been heavily documented or studied in humans.
However, new research has discovered that, after consuming kombucha, the yeast and bacteria colonise the intestines and creates metabolic changes - similar to those that occur during fasting.
Fasting, especially intermittent fasting, focuses more on when you eat, rather than what you eat. It has been shown to help with fat loss as it triggers the body's autophagy process, which allows your body to break down and remove unnecessary cells.

This then leads to more proteins that break down fats and fewer proteins that build a type of fat molecule called triglycerides.
Together these changes can reduce fat stores without any change to food intake or exercise, the experts say. The team from the University of North Carolina got their results by feeding the microbes present in kombucha to a worm.
They note that their results, published in PLoS Genetics, provide insights into how probiotics in kombucha tea reshape metabolism in a model worm species. And as a result, may offer hints to how these microbes impact human metabolism.

“These findings suggest that the microbes in Kombucha Tea trigger a “fasting-like” state in the host even in the presence of sufficient nutrients.”
I've been basically doing that for over 40 yrs. It does indeed keep the weight down. I've always stayed within my BMI.
Wow, that’s pretty cool.
I always did it 6 months to elk bow season just so I could run around.
Good job! Bet you are really feeling good.
Awesome
It comes natural to me, I eat as much as I want whenever I want, but it rarely reaches over a meal per day... Weird hah? My dad was the same way for whatever reason so I guess it’s genetic in some way.
I eat very few carbs but I am big on proteins.
It’s all in the gut. Look up Herings law of cure sometimes. There was just one pdf out there last time I looked.
I did a 14 day fast recently
First few days were absolutely agonizing. Last few days were very Surreal. I could have kept going.
It’s seriously a big deal.
One of these days I’m gonna hit it hard and do 40.
Lost psoriasis. It’s apainful ordeal.
You need a pal to check on you
Fasting is not starvation mode.
Did I say it was?
I put some stevia and some cream in it like regular British tea and it’s not bad.
Kombucha is made with sugar, but the sugar is eaten up by all the thingies in kombucha.
It starts out sweet and if left alone long enough, ends up like vinegar. The best thing to do is to catch it at the point you like it.
Do you have a sugar substitute?
Yikes, tested on WORMS? Why couldn’t they have done a simple mammal experiment. Take two groups of fat mice, give them all day and night access to some regular healthy diet. Then give one group kombucha as part of their water ration, and the other group plain water. Then see if one group loses weight more than the other. WORMS!!
Interesting, never tasted the tea.
Wow...feeding a worm and extrapolating the results to a human. Makes sense to me.
Open a chain of Kombucha bars and have a celebrity barking the benefits. “Sipping Kombucha reduces whiteness”
Good advice
