Not many people can say that Bob Dylan once sent them a song to record, but Huey Lewis is among them. Unfortunately, Lewis recently revealed, he has no idea where the tape went.
Speaking with Jimmy Kimmel, Lewis recalled that at one point Dylan had written him a number to record with the News. (Though the two acts never worked directly together, both Lewis and Dylan contributed to the recording of 1985's "We Are the World," in which they both had solo sections.)
"He sent me a cassette and a lovely note saying he liked the last record and here's a song of mine," Lewis said. "And not only did I not cut it, I don't actually know where the cassette is."

Lewis clarified that the tape is likely not lost for good — just buried somewhere in his archives.
"[It's] part of my cassette collection when there's thousands of cassettes there," he said. "I could probably find it eventually."
He also noted that he probably played the tape for his bandmates at the time, but can't recall why he never recorded the track.
"It was a big mistake, what can I say? I'm sorry," he concluded. "It was a mistake. Note to self: when Bob Dylan sends you a song, record it."
I never cared much for Dylan’s vocals but he wrote some really great songs. Lewis ought to hire someone to kick him in the arse. IMO
never liked his music, so missed nothing.
Hey! Weird Al and Huey Lewis could film Al kicking Huey in the butt and put it on tic tok. They could title it “A squirrel kicks a nut in the butt for losing a Bob Dylan song”. The youngsters wouldn’t know who and what the hell it’s all about. 🤪
Forget the tape. All you need is the manuscript.
I never liked his delivery of his songs. However, I was quite shocked at how many songs he wrote and who recorded them. He could write a song but his singing wasn’t my can of beer. Each to his own I guess. I served on a submarine with a guy who played his singing all the time. By the end of patrol I was ready to kill him. It’s hard to avoid someone when you only have 425 feet forward to aft.
I have Always liked Bob Dylan. As I’ve gotten older, I have discovered many songs that were covered by other people that he wrote. Very very beautiful songs Adele’s huge hit “Make You Feel My Love.” Manfred Mann’s “The Mighty Quinn” and many younger singers are covering a haunting song about depression titled “Not Dark Yet.”
The Russkies listening to your sonar signature were probably sick of Robert Allen Zimmerman too! LOL
True. We had Ivan before they ever knew we were close. It was the only time they could shut Ron and Dylan down. I enjoyed Ivan being close. I hated Dylan’s singing, I liked the songs. “Only A Hobo” done by the Johnson Mountain Boys is a favorite of mine. Granddad hobo’d on the rails during the depression. His oldest boy died up in WA from the flu while they were riding the rails. Most people are gone that have memories like that but it happened. The boat wasn’t hard for a kid that was 23 and bullet proof back then. Now, I’m too old to run but I’ll fight and die on my little patch of the US. I earned it and I damn well will make it count. Regards
It’s probably not the only copy. If Huey was still news, he would ask Bob for another tape.
He’s 10+yrs older than me. He probably can’t remember what he had for dinner. He sent songs to every one. Huey Lewis ain’t a kid. They may need a map to find what to pee with. I don’t yet but I can see old age creeping up and the bitch won’t be fun.
What a Pinhead.

It must have been too darned loud.
I would have ‘lost’ it, too. I grew up in a town near Dylan’s hometown and lived on 5th Street in college, one block up from his “Positively Fourth Street”. That all should have made me a fan...I wasn’t. He was a terrible singer, to me. Some said, “Yes, but he was a great poet.” I’ve never been impressed with poetry, either. When I write something, I’d like readers to say: “Oh, I didn’t know that.” When I read poetry, I mostly say “What did he mean by that?” To me, life’s to short to waste time trying to figure out the meaning of obscure words jumbled up into obscure sentences, just because they sometimes rhyme.
Patriotic salute to an FR bubblehead!

Sometimes the fun is: ‘How in the world will he come with a rhyme for that?’
And he does. It came up tails that rhymes with sails so I made it back to the ship.
Be safe Brother.
Maybe before they played, they were on their own, like rolling stoned.
