Back in 2015 we had to replace a 22 year old Kenmore refrigerator. A friend of of mine was the store manager for a Lowes and they had a Frigidaire french door unit, listed at $3400, on floor sale due to a tiny dent on a side panel that would be hidden anyway.
The price was so good I purchased the five-year extended warranty and I am glad I did. The control panel had to be replaced in 2018 so it paid off. After the warranty ended the main water valve assembly died and the water/ice switch/paddle assembly broke. I bought them online and replaced them myself. Now there is a water leak I cannot find. It is not from a clogged condenser drain and I may have found it but I am so pissed it is already needing another repair in less than ten years.
I also had to replace both plastic crisper drawers due to how flimsy they are.
We are now not fans of Frigidaire.
Our 10yr old Kenmore water valve broke, I'll probably buy the $120 valve and replace it. Just spent $40 for a replacement shelf. Other than that it still works :)
Here's a scam that Lowe's runs that I didn't find out about until after I also bought the 5 year extended warranty: The extended warranty doesn't go into effect until after the one year manufacturer's warranty expires, but the 5 year clock starts ticking when you first purchase the extended warranty.
So in effect Lowe's charged me for a 5 year warranty, but it is only a 4 year extended warranty.
If the product you buy happens to have a 5 year factory warranty, if you by Lowe's 5 year extended warranty you get no extended warranty at all.
