Now that we have a home on more or less dry land and enough room for a garden, PR and I are anxious to learn about what food we can grow in the short time we have each year.

We have good local sources for eggs, meat chickens, fish etc. but I need to con someone into raising goats d;^)

My nephew's wife faces the same dilemma. Nephew hates goats. Absolutely no idea why. BUT . . . she's been steadily working on him, and he's beginning to come around. She emphasizes the health benefits (and, some say, the superior taste) of goat milk, cheese made from goat milk, and of course the ready supply of meat.

So that may be a good starting for your own situation. :-)

Check out the local farm markets- you may find some good connections there. Also appropriate plants for your growing zone and garden advice. Maybe even a goat dairy.

For Alaska, maybe build a greenhouse and invest in grow lights?
