SANTA FE, N.M. — A New Mexico jury found "Rust" armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed guilty of involuntary manslaughter and not guilty of tampering with evidence on Wednesday after deliberating for about two and a half hours.
The 26-year-old faces up to three years in state prison and will be sentenced at a later date. A judge ordered that Gutierrez-Reed be taken into custody and held until her sentencing.
The nearly two-week criminal trial centered around the 2021 shooting on the "Rust" film set in which actor Alec Baldwin held a prop gun that fired a live round of ammunition, killing the film's cinematographer, Haylna Hutchins. The bullet also injured director Joel Souza.
During the prosecution's closing arguments on Wednesday, Kari T. Morrissey told the jury that Gutierrez-Reed "was negligent, she was careless, she was thoughtless."
Morrissey also said that following the fatal shooting, the 27-year-old armorer was more “worried about her career” and less about the victims.
I don’t think so. I can’t find information one way or the other.
“she didn’t pull the trigger”
That will come up in the next trial....July for baldwin
There are six Producers on Rust.
Baldwin’s the guy over in the corner going “Nyuck nyuck nyuck!
“can’t imagine any situation where an movie armorer would need real bullets”
It was revealed that she brought gun belts and ammo from a previous movie.....who knows what happened.
As it was said on court tv, there’s plenty of blame to go around
One of the first stories out on the net after the shooting was that Baldwin was pissed at cinematographer Halyna Hutchins because she wanted a second take at the scene they had just completed. Baldwin’s supposed reaction was to point the gun at Hutchins saying “take this” or something similar and pulled the trigger.
Given Baldwins known temper it could actually have happened that way. During his trial several who were on set and have not yet been public may provide this or another version of the event.
Not defending Baldwin, but the revolver was supposed to be loaded with dummy cartridges. He shot the photographer because he was drawing and pointing the revolver at the camera, to see what it looked like on film. The dummy cartridges were used to make it look as if the revolver was loaded.
The only way to check if the revolver was actually loaded with dummy cartridges, was to remove all six, through the loading gate, shake them hear the BB rattling inside, and then replace them through the loading gate.
Of course, Baldwin hired the armorer who was in charge of making certain there were no live cartridges in the weapons he was handed, and kept her on the job after there were two negligent discharges on set in a single day.
Baldwin has seven children with his most recent wife. I believe all of them are under 18 years of age.
Baldwin is about to go bankrupt.
Either from attorney fees, or civil lawsuits, or both.
I feel really sorry for the kids, who are about to get a shocking introduction to the world of money stress.
Not good for Baldwin in his July trial
Baldwin had the dough to blame it on her.
Seriously?
Baldwin was the boss of the set.
What a beautiful distraction during the election season kick off. Should be a fun month.
LOL, armorer, what a joke, no NRA credentials, not even a mail order gunsmithing course...
Alec will walk free. They found the person to pin it on!
Thanks for checking.

I hear the cast and crew were out at the back 40 shooting cans and bottles with the pistols during lunch and got live rounds all mixed in with dummies
You’re welcome. I tried numerous sources and searches.
It’s hard to find what does not exist…
Indeed it is.
Enjoy your evening.

You as well.
