Heh heh... Google Search:
Who is the godfather of yacht rock?
Michael McDonald
I’m partial to Tom Johnston myself, but IMHO the best thing about the Doobies was Tiran Porter’s bass playing.
Michael McDonald on his Yacht.
IMHO his best work was with Steely Dan. “Peg” and “Bad Sneakers”.
And also “Any World (That I’m Welcome To)”.
I bought this CD. Nothing but Michael McDonald and Christopher Cross.
Shoot me. Shoot me now.
Everybody has their own opinion when it comes to music... I couldn’t care less for either of those two singers you mentioned.
Everyone has their own opinions and everyone’s allowed to, and that’s a beautiful thing.
Add my name to the list of those who concur. I don't mind him as an individual artist, but he took the hard edge and the roots-rock off the Doobies that I really loved.
Long Train Runnin' · The Doobie Brothers
Rockin' Down the Highway · The Doobie Brothers
For all his flaws, I gotta give him his due for one unusual thing: he’s apparently been married to the same woman for more than 40 years. Highly unusual for a California entertainer!
RE: Michael McDonald and Christopher Cross.
But we can’t forget Michael Bolton. The whole catalog.
Office Space:
Bob Slydell shares his thoughts on Michael Bolton the singer. “I’ll be honest with you, I love his music,” he says. “I’m a Michael Bolton fan. For my money, I don’t know if it gets any better than when he sings ‘When a Man Loves a Woman.
Mr. Yacht Rock
“Doobies took a nosedive after he got involved. Just my opinion.”
This, +1000. Similar to when Peter Cetera “took over” Chicago and they turned wimpier too.
“Doobies took a nosedive after he got involved. Just my opinion.”
👍👍👍
He also did the song in closing credits for the South Park Movie, “Through the Eyes of a Child”:
Sure life is kind of gay, but it doesn’t seem that way
Through the Eyes of a Child
Which is a shame, because he's a hell of a bass player, and his harmonies with Lamm and Kath were phenomenal.
Looking forward to it.
Rick Beato has the best music-related channel on YouTube and he's really getting some heavy hitters in the biz to show up. Often, they call Beato because they're fans of his show!
Beato did a great interview with Pat Metheny.
