Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Must Take Paternity Test, Judge Rules
ESPN ^ | Feb 29, 2024

A judge has upheld a decision requiring Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to take a paternity test as part of a legal dispute with a 27-year-old woman who says the billionaire is her biological father.

A Texas judge on Wednesday rejected an appeal from Jones of a 2022 ruling in a paternity case brought by Alexandra Davis, who previously alleged in a separate lawsuit that she was conceived from a relationship Jones had with her mother in the mid-1990s.

Attorneys for Jones are challenging the constitutionality of the Texas law that would compel genetic testing of Jones. In March 2022, Davis sued Jones in Dallas County, asking a judge to void a legal agreement she said her mother, Cynthia Davis, reached with Jones two years after she was born. The 1998 settlement allegedly said Jones would support them financially as long as they didn't publicly say he was Alexandra's father -- something the married owner of the Cowboys has denied.

Peter Angelos finally sold his team - Baltimore Orioles.

He has two sons. But from what I've heard, it got messy. Finally they were able to sell the team, which is the best thing to do.

The story kinda reminds me of B.J.’s ‘son’. The black one.

One is entitled to know who their biological parents are. There should be laws establishing paternity upon birth. It would save a lot on child support lawsuits.

Disinterested fathers(and mothers) should be made to face the music. Think John Lennon and Barry Manilow-very interesting. It’s the most important role any man will have and they need to be judged before assuming room temperature.

turns out to be true then the entire Cowboy world could be turned upside down

Really? I dumped the NFL years ago, and gave up on Jerry Jones years before that. I have zero personal knowledge of his personal life. I can state that for many years after he bought the Cowboys, the reputation was that if Jerry partied with Bill Clinton, Slick would have been left behind, exhausted, while Jerry was still going strong.

There used to be a Metroplex radio guy who appeared various afternoon drive time sports talk radio programs as “The Fake Jerry.” He would invariably greet the host with “Good mornin’ to ya” when the time was perhaps 6:15 pm. The joke being that (Fake) Jerry had just woken up, after drinking, and consorting with women he met at a bar, until shortly before noon

The NFL probably has a strict rule about estate planning for owners to avoid what happened to the Chicago Bears and especially the Miami Dolphins

In the case of the Dolphins, Joe Robbie died without any estate planning and the family had to sell the team at a huge discount in order to pay the massive estate taxes

When George Halas died the bears went through a divisive ownership battle

The Cowboys could be a really big problem if another child emerges and Jerry Jones dies, he’s currently around 80-years old

If ownership of team is severely impacted then it’s a big deal

Hopefully she learns what huge mistakes her Mother made and resolve not to follow in her footsteps.

Why do you blame her mother but not her father?

I don’t know. Nothing in the situation is this young woman’s fault, nor Mr. Jones’s other children’s, or his wife’s. In spite of everything else, I think she has a right to know for sure whether he is her father.

Really? If she's proved to be his daughter now, she's already been his daughter for more than 20 years. It doesn't change anything.

She’s probably a better GM than he is

It could change everything if Jones leaves everything to his 3 children which could turn out to be 4 children especially when the Cowboys are worth conservatively 8 billion dollars

I can see that being an issue. On the other hand, that’s what lawyers are for.

Considering the potential money involved each side probably has top notch lawyers and if Jerry Jones is her father that gives her a huge advantage especially since he’s been paying her without acknowledging her

Well, when Mr. Jones dies, maybe there will be news about the estate.

His wife has known for two years that he had an affair and secretly paid for a child.

You can bet he's had a LOT of affairs.

Do you really think there is any chance Jerry’s estate planning, and the Cowboy’s succession planning, has not taken into account the possibility of Jerry having more biological children than those that appear on the family Christmas Card?

Things like this have happened before to NFL owners, the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins both had ownership issues when the current owner at the time died unexpectedly without planning for his estate.

In the case of the Dolphins, Joe Robbie died and his estate had to sell the team in order to pay all the estate taxes.

Will a change in ownership percentages happen with the Cowboys, probably not, but it’s not unheard of and will be interesting to watch.
