A major cellphone outage affected users across the US early Thursday — even stopping some police departments from being able to receive 911 calls.
AT&T seemed to have experienced the largest number of issues, with nearly 32,000 reports at around 4:30 a.m., according to data from DownDetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from sources including user-submitted errors on its platform.
More than 800 service outages were also reported on T-Mobile and Verizon, although a spokesperson for the latter put it down to users reporting problems trying to call people with other services.
Others reported issues on smaller carriers including Boost Mobile, Consumer Cellular and Straight Talk Wireless.
The problems extended from New York, Boston and Atlanta on the East Coast to Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Seattle and San Francisco — and even to Montreal in Canada.
Several police stations throughout the country even warned that people might be unable to call to report emergencies.
However, many AT&T users say they are stuck in “SOS Mode” in which they can only reach emergency services.
A spokesperson for Verizon, however, told The Post its network is “operating as normal” and the issues seem to arise when customers try to call or text those using another telecommunications company.
Many expressed their frustration with the ongoing outages, as the providers have yet to issue any statements.
“AT&T is literally one of the most expensive phone companies, and y’all have the audacity to have a service outage for hours with zero updates being given to your customers?” one customer wrote on X.
“Y’all got one hour to wrap this s–t up! Fix it and fix it now.

WiFi Calling proved to be a great feature for us when we purchased our first iPhones a year ago. We live in a city with roughly 100,000 residents (and rapidly growing), but cell reception here, especially in our neighborhood, sucks. 5G is nearly impossible at our house, so good luck trying to go with 5G Internet. I also believe iPhone's messaging goes (or can do) through the Internet via WiFi.
Biden's letting thousands of Chinese men of military age into the country... and terrorists from the middle east and gang members from Valenzuela.. It's going to get worse.
All companies need SOS systems. Of course the goons and thugs who are suppose to protect us - the human filth of American 'intelligence' - will never help with anything for everyday citizens. We won't survive another 4 years with a democrat in charge.
WHOA - I wonder if other Tik Tok/non Tik Tok users have similar experiences.,..
Last week it was AWS(Amazon Web Services)...took down Wyze cameras for a few hours.
“Just change your phone settings to WiFi Calling and you’ll be good to go!”
When we were with T-Mobile I bought a smart phone, by OnePlus - a great device. It’s almost identical to the Motorola I have now. When we changed providers to Verizon, VZ said it’s “totally compatible” with them.
Found out that it is NOT totally compatible. Wifi calling does NOT work, and the option is greyed out. VZ told me they block it from devices they don’t sell, it is “not provisioned”, and they won’t provision it.
Hubby uses it now, and loves it, except he can’t use wifi calling. There are times it is almost necessary, and he is dead in the water.
Buyer beware when taking a device to Verizon.
Ask your friends and family...
I believe Cricket is AT&T

Verizon here in AZ — alive and kicking so far.
Pure Talk uses T-Mobile. We have Pure Talk and haven’t had service since I woke up this morning. Phone displays “SOS”.
Thnx, service has been dodgy all day. Wireless calling using home internet has been a workaround.
I’m going to try and call this early. Now the news of the outage has spread and is being covered pretty widely and I don’t think the fears of future critical outages being considered are out of line.
So much so that I’m looking into the emergency food kit advertised on Louder with Crowder and may purchase a few.
Do you think this worry will be widespread enough to have a run on the groceries and stuff like a coming storm causes? That wouldn’t be a surprise.
As of this morning, they are affecting AT&T, Verizon, and T-mobile. No magic to it.
The "middle of the night" can occur at different times depending upon what part of the country you live in. And, geo-synchronous satellites see more hours of the sun than you do because of their high orbit.
Chinese spy ballon anyone?
“PureTalk” = AT&T cell network.

Well, I guess I was remembering Patriot.
Yeah, Patriot Mobile uses all 3 networks (including T-Mobile) depending on your location:
