Olympian Zeus would refer to Mount Olympus, not Olympia. There was a temple of Olympian Zeus at Athens (begun in the 6th century BC, not completed until the second century AD). Some columns are still standing.

1,000 feet from the coast, so, it’s understandable.
No, it's not, unless you think that archeologists should only conduct searches in places if they can get large grants for digs, and shouldn't check out things on their own in their free time.
Could have been modern wreck debris, modern dumping, or a natural item
It could have been many things, including an ancient sculpture, which it is. Many experts with fancy doctorates miss important finds because of a lack of curiosity. The term "educated idiots" comes to mind. Seek and ye shall find. Keep your head up your arse, and learn nothing.

The real question is, is there any truth to the origin of such beasts? As ridiculous as it sounds there is a possible link to these stories and ancient texts telling of such cross breedings. We are unable to do such because of chromosome inequality and lack of technology. But the Books of Enoch, Giants and Jasher claims this was the real reason for the Flood of Noah. The gene pool was being tainted. Fallen angels left their first domain and changed their bodies somehow to mate with humans. The progeny were the Nephalim. They didn’t stop there though and began experiments on different species of animals. Were there Minotaurs or was Pegasus real? Who knows. Maybe this was the knowledge that was to be sealed up unto the end of time. I’ve stayed away from the Apocrypha until recently and have no belief either away on it.

but it is fun to accuse so-called satanists of beastiality. After all, their followers were required to kiss the hinder part of the devil.
To: BipolarBob
That looks like an artist's sculpture rendition of the 1909 Devil card from the Rider-Waite Tarot deck.

Yeah, it is. There are only just so many archaeologists, and they have to evaluate the best use of their time. And oh, boo hoo, they only do field work in difficult places when they can get a grant. Grow up.

Reading is a useful skill often acquired in childhood. Pays to use this skill carefully. See quote from the article:
“experts believe it may have been designed as decoration for the Temple of Olympian Zeus in Agrigento—a hilltop city in Sicily”
Thus nothing to do with a temple in Athens, and everything to do with Sicily, where it was found.

It was only under 30 feet of water a thousand feet from the coast. A volunteer group took enough pictures to get the government to retrieve it because no archeologist with SCUBA gear was interested in so much as taking a look on a weekend swim. If I were an archeologist, I might feel a bit defensive about that too. Luckily, ordinary people have more sense than Italian archeologists do.
