Yeah, it is. There are only just so many archaeologists, and they have to evaluate the best use of their time. And oh, boo hoo, they only do field work in difficult places when they can get a grant. Grow up.

It was only under 30 feet of water a thousand feet from the coast. A volunteer group took enough pictures to get the government to retrieve it because no archeologist with SCUBA gear was interested in so much as taking a look on a weekend swim. If I were an archeologist, I might feel a bit defensive about that too. Luckily, ordinary people have more sense than Italian archeologists do.
