Famed NBA sports analyst Kenny Smith is getting torched for his curious coverage of the 3-point shooting contest between superstar Steph Curry and WNBA sharpshooter Sabrina Ionescu.
In the first-ever contest between a man and a woman player in the long-distance shooting exhibition at the NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, Curry edged Ionescu in points, 29-26.
This match was arguably the most anticipated and entertaining event of the weekend which included the traditional 3-point shooting contest, All-Star Celebrity Game, the Skills Challenge, and the Rising Stars game.
Smith, who is a co-host on TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” objected to the fact Ionescu shot with a WNBA basketball, which is smaller than an NBA ball, but still shot from the NBA’s 3-point line instead of the WNBA’s 3-point line which is a shorter distance.
Listen to the argument Smith was embroiled in with Hall of Famer Reggie Miller:
Smith adamantly refused to change his stance, inciting a fellow NBA star Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers to take a shot at Smith.
Smith is not as well known as his counterparts Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley, but he still commands respect as a former player and NBA champion.
Despite his career credentials and reputation as a man of reason, many fans still registered disgust with Smith’s statements.

She isn’t beating Bird. NO way.
Women from Jr.HS on up play with a slightly smaller ball to account for their generally smaller hands. I don’t see the problem here. She shot with the ball she uses in competition. She shot from the NBA line which is deeper than the WNBA line. Seems fair to me. If it’s that big of a deal, do it again and have Curry shoot with the WNBA ball. Might be surprised how much of a difference that would make.
Imagine how they would react to the late Norm MacDonald’s take on the WNBA.

Bill Belichick said of all the QBs he's coached, Bert Jones was the best. If Jones played in today's NFL, he may very well have been the GOAT.
“Sheesh…have them first shoot from the women’s line and with the women’s ball. Then shoot again from the men’s line with the men’s ball.”
The man probably wouldn’t shoot well. He has years of muscle memory with the heavier ball.
I thought he said she should have shot from the WNBA 3-point line, which is shorter.
That was weird, because he made it sound as if she wasn’t competitive from the men’s distance, when she had the same score as the winner of the men’s 3-point contest. Curry, who is the best in the world at it, was the only one who bested her score.
Works both ways, doesn’t it. That’s why doing both equalizes things.
She shot from the NBA 3-point line which she normally does not use when playing regular season games, the all male 3-point contest winning score was the same as her score against Curry
Final score 29-26.
Um...neither 29 or 26 are divisible by 3.
Right there owning Curry, even from the man’s three point line. Enough to take his house and kids, and bigger_____. On to the next oneS, proud and in Broad daylight.
Smith saw that she was given an advantage. He noticed the thing that was not for noticing.
NEVER watch “women’s” basketball.
Would rather watch paint dry——
FIRST I have heard that the ball is smaller
THAT doesn’t seem right
WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY MUST DO-—WITHIN AN HOUR
The BLUE FLAME LSR vehicle ran out of fuel at about the 3/4 mile mark-—
They still set the record at 630 MPH-—2 way average-—Would like to be able to calculate what it would have been if they hadn’t run out of fuel
