The City of Bridgeport released data Thursday on the shocking number of drivers caught on camera illegally passing stopped school buses in the city since the beginning of the school year.
From Sept. 3, 2023 to Feb. 3, 2024, nearly 10,000 motorists passed school buses that were stopped with lights flashing, according to Bridgeport officials.
The incidents were captured by cameras on the school buses. The city released video of some of the incidents.
“It is unacceptable that there are motorists who are blatantly putting our children in danger by illegally passing stopped school buses," Mayor Joseph Ganim said in a statement. "We will take the necessary steps to crack down on these violations to ensure that our children are not being threatened by the carelessness of drivers while school buses are making their pickup and drop-off routes.”
In all, cameras on 74 buses captured 9,860 incidents of drivers illegally passing school buses, according to Bridgeport officials. That breaks down to 75 violations per weekday, city officials said.
The bus stop with the highest number of violations was the 100 block of Logan Street with 1,671 violations, according to the data. That is almost three times as many violations as the next highest stop in the 100 block of Davenport Street.

I would just love to know how many were registered Democrats.
Well, it is Connecticut. Living that close to so much salt water can really screw you up in the head.
We had a case in Louisville a few years ago where a woman went around the bus and killed two children.
It’s illegal to stuff the ballot box Ganim.
License plate cams on buses. Make them pay
Exact same thing happened to a girl in Alabama; she went to the same church as my friends and me.
I’m sure they consider themselves a sanctuary city and accept gangs and drugs as part of being ‘diverse’ so ‘putting kids at risk’ is disproportionately on city ‘leaders’. Not the drivers they give taxpayer money to.
Well they must be late or really , really more importanter than some kid.
All. Whether they know it or not. It’s Bridgeport
SPEAK OUT PEOPLE!!
“Living that close to so much salt water can really screw you up in the head.”
Florida Man and I take exception to your comment sir. 😁
85% of them where non-native Hispanics and other POC, you can bet.
Specifically it's Bridgeport. A white minority city. I'm sure that has nothing to do with it.
Appears citizens are just following De Mayor’s example….. you know rot from the head……
In my neck of the woods _all_ traffic laws are considered suggestions. Right turn on a stop sign? Don’t even slow down. Passing on the shoulder? Go for it. Why would things be any different for a bus with flashing lights?
The police have these new SUVs that everyone is calling stealth cars. Blacked out except for the dark grey shield on the side. But if you watch these cops are just as guilty of not following the traffic laws. I guess you can say they blend right in.
I have considered writing to the state representatives and just have them update the laws to say that stop signs are just red yield signs and to strongly enforce that. If you are turning in front of me when I don’t have a stop sign, and I have to apply my brakes, you get a ticket.
Alas, I have a cloud to go shout at.
No, salt water clears your mind. Just imagine all the kids splat on the pavement if they didn’t at least have that!
Abolish public schools, problem solved.
If the license plate is readable then the city is going to
make some money. Hopefully the camera has a date on
it, but not necessary to show they didn’t stop.
