Released on this date in 1974.
“I hired you people to try to get some track laid, not jump around like a bunch of Kansas City F******!”
“Dock that Ch*** a day’s pay for nappin’ on the job.”
“We’ll take the N****** and the Ch***....BUT WE DON’T WANT THE IRISH!!!”
“Excuse me while I whip this out.”
“Work up a #6 on ‘em”
So many classic lines.
I showed this movie to one of my sons (in his 30s now) a few years ago and he could not believe a movie like that would be allowed to come out. It certainly wouldn't be allowed today, without picket lines of angry liberals blocking the entrance to the movie theaters!
What do blacks thing of this movie? You may think that would be impossible to know but it is not. You see on youtube they have what are called “reaction videos” a sort of cottage industry for people with few other options. They film them selves “reacting” to music or movies.
Blazing Saddle has a number of reaction videos by blacks watching this movie for the first time.
They at first look confused and shocked with the first “N’ word (which some bleep out but some don’t). It doesn’t take long for them to realize it is satire and find most is funny ( and sadly some are confused by the cultural references we of the baby boomers generation understand but they don’t).
Over all they wonder why movies like this are no longer made putting the blame clearly on the “woke” mafia as it were.
‘Guess I’ll whip out my Blue-Ray tonight!
Oh blow it out your ass, Howard.
Richard Pryor was one of the writers.
“Where’s all the white women?”
Its one of a handful movies that I have to watch at least once a year.
Back when blacks and whites could laugh at and with each other.
A few years ago, I bought DVDs of all of the Mel Brooks
movies, and a few others like Disney’s “Song of the South,”because I thought at sometime in the politically
correct future they might become unavailable.
I’m glad I did.
Somebody should to save this stuff from the PC memory hole...
My son and I were watching a Bengals game and I saw a player with the name Karras. He is Alex Karras’ nephew I think. I told my son that Alex had been a NFL player with the Detroit Lions.
“How about a good N***** work song?”
“More beans Mr Taggart?....Phew! I’d say you boys’ve had enough!”
“Handcar? We can’t afford to lose no handcar! Send a coupla N******!”
*ahem* rules
I don't think so. As long as wokeness, PC and cancel culture permeate our society, such a film can never be made.
That’s exactly when such a movie needs to be made.
To show the stupidity of the status quo................
Candy gram for Mongo! 😉
So, theaters are going to do a wide release anniversary showing to celebrate?
Saw it back then. TOTAH theater in Farmington NM. Rude, Crude and Socially Unacceptable silly comedy, and funny as could be with a packed theater!
Glad it, like THE PRODUCERS is still offending the Faint Hearts today.
Thank you! Best movie ever made, even bowdlerized for TV. Not a single minute goes by without some unforgettable line or other.
Why can’t we laugh at ourselves anymore?
