Are we worse at Moon landings than 50 years ago?
BBC ^

Posted on 02/04/2024 3:29:14 PM PST by nickcarraway

Japan's Moon lander ended up on its nose when it made its historic touchdown on the lunar surface. A US lunar lander has "no chance" of making a soft landing on the Moon due to a fuel leak.

We've set foot on the Moon multiple times. So why all the recent mission failures?

It can get tough in these parts.

In the immortal words of a former CIA Director;

“We’ll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false.”

I was just reading about David Mc Gowan, a dead reporter who investigated the moon landings. They say he had aggressive cancer but it’s funny he was warned about getting cancer before he got it. He has a lot of investigations such as 911 and child abuse. His website is full of info.

“BTW…we still can’t figure out how to get astronauts through the Van Allen Belts and beyond because of high cosmic radiation levels”

No, that’s just you and crackpots who believe nonsense from conspiracy rags.

In the real world astronauts move through the Belts fast enough that it isn’t a problem.

I’d say so. That was a different time and place.

That America vanished. Can’t have that ‘60’s White toxic masculinity today.

No more of “The Right Stuff’’.

One of the articles you linked to seems to ask more questions than it answers - the one at forbes.com about a manned Mars mission (March 2017).

Unprotected, a solar flare can rapidly give you radiation sickness, which makes you tired and also makes you vomit. Fortunately for all involved, most spacecraft have thick enough walls that the crew should be protected from solar flares, but it’s generally considered good practice to reduce all possible risks. On the other hand, cosmic rays are not so easily stopped.

Because cosmic rays are fundamentally a charged particle, using a miniature magnetosphere surrounding the spacecraft would be an effective way of keeping them away from both your crew and the walls of the spacecraft; if this could be built into a spacecraft, you wouldn’t need to bulk up the outer surfaces of the craft for radiation protection. However, actually doing so is a bit beyond us at the moment.

This is not a given, because to create such a magnetic field, you need to add extra stuff to your spacecraft; the more mass you have, the more stuff Galactic cosmic rays can bash into, filling your craft with extra radiation. However, these portable magnetospheres are only just in the design phase --the next big steps will be building them, making them lighter, easier to power and making sure they work they way we hoped they would. At this point, all we can really say is that it should be possible. We'll have to wait and see if it's also practical.

The challenge facing a potential manned Mars mission - to be protected from damaging galactic cosmic energy - is to the level that faced the Apollo missions - and beyond. We don't have these capabilities now, and didn't then.

You would think that they would go with a classic design for the basic frame of the lander. You wouldn't have them tipping over.

Statistics and probabilities do have a way of cropping up from time to time.

When your parts have a 99.9999% quality level; it would behoove a designer not to have more than 1,000,000 parts with which to contend.

Ah, one of the few that actually reads more than links! Needed: actual justification for a Mar's mi$$ion, and if so, nuclear powered rocket tug boat - and long nano cable - and better shielding

Lockheed Martin Selected to Develop Nuclear-Powered Spacecraft ..26 Jul, 2023,. "These more powerful and efficient nuclear thermal propulsion systems can provide faster transit times between destinations. Reducing transit time is vital for human missions to Mars to limit a crew's exposure to radiation," said Kirk Shireman, vice president of Lunar Exploration Campaigns at Lockheed Martin Space. An NTP system uses a nuclear reactor to quickly heat hydrogen propellant to very high temperatures and then funnels that gas through the engine nozzle to create powerful thrust. The fission-based reactor will use a special high-assay low-enriched uranium, or HALEU, to convert the cryogenic hydrogen into an extremely hot pressurized gas. The reactor will not be turned on until the spacecraft has reached a nuclear safe orbit, making the NTP system very safe. Material that includes carbon with the same structure as diamond could be used to protect satellites from space radiation. [paywalled] advancements in science and technology, especially in the field of nanomaterials technology, it is now possible to produce radiation protection materials that offer high all-around performance. This article discusses the current research on composite-based radiation shielding materials. It first describes the current state and distribution of radiation shielding studies worldwide. Then, it categorizes and reviews composite-based radiation protection materials, taking into account the study topic and the field’s requirements. The three broad categories of composite-based radiation protection materials are polymer- [paywalled]

I was just reading about David Mc Gowan, a dead reporter who investigated the moon landings. They say he had aggressive cancer but it’s funny he was warned about getting cancer before he got it. He has a lot of investigations such as 911 and child abuse

On 14 April 2015, I presented a lengthy video deconstruction of the 2013 Boston Marathon incident through the Caravan to Midnight radio show/podcast. About a week later (on 20 April of all days), the nearly four-hour video presentation was uploaded to YouTube. Not long after that, someone using the username Phoenix Archangel posted an interesting comment: "John [Wells, the host of the show] always signs off with some of the best advice ever. Speaking of advice: this David McGowan fella really ought to quit smoking. With all the elitist feathers he's ruffling, he's likely to come down with a spontaneous case of hitherto undiagnosed stage 4 inoperable Pancreatic cancer."
Mr./Ms Archangel, he/she wasn’t too far off, though I’ve been told that it’s actually incurable small-cell lung cancer that has already spread to my liver and bones. And no, that’s unfortunately not a joke. It’s my new reality as of just a few short weeks ago, when my entire world was turned upside-down and I suddenly found myself being admitted to the oncology ward at Glendale Adventist Medical Center. Four days later, I was beginning my first round of chemotherapy infusions. The second round began on 15 June.
My oncologist seems to be of the opinion that I only have a couple years left on this planet, if that. The odds of surviving for even five more years are very, very low. But I’ve never been one for taking advice or believing what I have been told. And I can be exceedingly stubborn.... I personally don’t believe the teachings of either Satanism or Christianity, which are really just opposite sides of the same coin. I don’t believe that there is a God or a devil... - https://wikispooks.com/wiki/David_McGowan
McGowan soon passed away following a six month battle against lung cancer. He is a believer now wherever he is, and if he never came to repentance and effectual faith in the risen Lord Jesus, who saves sinners on His account, then the reality he is experiencing is one of just punishment in the light of all that God knows of men and their motives, which cannot be denied or assigned to conspiratorial contrivances.

May all come to God in repentance and effectual regenerating (born of His Spirit: Jn. 3:3,7) obedient faith in the risen Lord Jesus, who saves sinners by His sinless shed blood - not by the merit of anyone else - and now reigns as man's present savior and future judge of all. (John 3:36; Acts 10:36-47; Acts 15:7-9; 1 Pet. 2:24; 1 Pt. 3:18, 22; 4:5; Romans 3:19-26; Rom. 4:1-8; 16: 26; Matthew 25:31-33, 41, 46; 1 Corinthians 3:13-17; Revelation 20:4-15 )
