After some haggling and much consternation among the state Legislature, Gov. Spencer Cox signed a bill Wednesday afternoon reiterating Utah's sovereignty in light of federal government actions. "Balancing power between state and federal sovereignty is an essential part of our constitutional system. This legislation gives us another way to push back on federal overreach and maintain that balance," he said in a prepared statement. Just minutes before Cox approved the measure, the ACLU of Utah issued a public plea for him to veto it
I like this. It brings the historical argument front and center. It is the united states, not the United States. The Constitution is a pact between 50 separate governments on how to act with each other. It is not FedGov which oversees its 50 little territories.
The supremacy clause has been abused by those who think this is a federal democracy. It is not and was not ever intended to be.
A bigger fix would be repealing the 17th Amendment swinging the pendulum of power back toward the states.

The feds over used the supremacy clause. The founders did not write a constitution limiting fed authority just to void all of it in one clause. Only a meathead national socialist would argue otherwise. I’m speaking to the pathetic ACLU.
When did Cox grow a spine?

Well, having an old guy in Provo getting blown up by the FBI for ranting on the internet did help a bit.
The MoMo’s in Ootah had to look in the mirror and ask themselves: did they do this to a bunch of Antifa trash in Portland? Nope, they did it to us. Maybe we oughta stiffen up a bit.
I had a casual conversation with a Federal Judge about two years ago in which he told me that there was no such thing as “state’s rights”. I did not want to start an argument, so I let it pass, but I have since wondered exactly what he meant. Did he mean that the supremacy clause has been expanded to the point where, indeed, the states no longer have any rights, or did he mean that there never was such a thing in the first place? In any event, it was an insight into the thinking of the lower Federal Bench.
Biden’s ‘parolees’ from illegally crossing our borders all need to be sent to the District of Columbia to wait for their trials. This would satisfy the terms of US Constitution Art. IV, Sect 4. It would put a lot of hurt into the Deep State as well. And possibly remove the residents of DC known for their stellar work on juries who might get displaces when the district fills up.
Sheriffs across the nation have already stated they will refuse to enforce anti-gun laws. Utah’s new law moves nullification of illegal federal diktats onto the state level.
States have powers.
Human beings have rights.
In that sense he was correct. But I seriously doubt that’s what he meant.

Agreed, but as far as the Utah Legislature and Governor Cox, it might just be kabuki theater.
