It’s a .38 Special revolver. Up until one month ago, I had scant idea what such a gun looked like or could do. My husband eventually made the decision to get a gun, which surprised me a little as he is a very peaceable man. Yet, he is a lover of the U.S. Constitution: peaceable, but no fool. This week is our 30th anniversary. For our anniversary present, we bought the gun together.
We have talked about buying a gun over the past few years. We live in the South in a semi-rural area bordering the Gulf of Mexico. Traditionally, gun ownership is considered mostly normal here. It is by and large a quiet, working-class, family area, and nobody thinks of gun ownership as a threat to anyone but to those with evil intent.
However, the current reasons that many, many more are buying guns are not the past’s ‘regular’ reasons; nor were our own reasons, this week, in any way ‘regular.’ It was a scary decision, but we are not interested in being shot, molested, raped, or carted off from our home. We would rather take a stand for ourselves, for our lives. Our reluctance to submit to the growing tyranny in the United States has reached, if not our doorstep yet, a place in the core of our hearts. This is happening everywhere, to all sorts.
Isn’t it interesting how much firepower the FBI commands, and how they regularly and with impunity break down the doors of the common people now? Isn’t it curious how Joe Biden makes such a big noise about guns, but lives, travels, and sleeps in fortresses of one sort or another -- stationary or mobile? ...

Pump shotgun and .22lr
It’s hard to beat an alloy five-shot revolver for ease of concealment. Use an ankle holster and 110-gr or 125-gr ammo.
Best ear protection is muffs PLUS expanding ear plugs. Or spend up to $500 on the best protection. I’ve seen empty 38 caliber cartridge cases used (but painful for me).
Even more important is the DETERMINATION to use your defensive weapon. A wife’s excellent target practice doesn’t translate to survival very well.
A .38 would not be my choice for someone to learn on. I think it makes more sense for beginners to learn the “basics” with a .22 before stepping up to more noise and recoil.
I bought my first pistol in 1976, it was/is a Remington XP100 .221 Fireball with 3-X Burris long eye relief scope.
Same year I bought my Winchester 30-30 Bi-Commemorative rifle, beautiful thing. It rested over my fireplace where I lived on edge of mountains in NM for many years. Only thing I ever added was a Williams receiver sight.
Still love them.

BUy an AR and a Benelli pump shotgun, get 5000 rounds of .223, three castes of )) buck and a case of rifled slugs and .38 cal hollow points.
Take classes and learn how to use these tools.
“Our first gun” is just so much liberal pap.
Get the full set of tools and learn to use them, all you got now is a false sense of security.
A .38 snub nosed is an excellent 1st gun. You know it’s always loaded and a strong double action trigger pull is your safety. I personally had many “first guns” before I lost them all in a tragic canoe accident on the Tennessee River.

Yes. A .38 Special is the absolute bare minimum. One of the 9mm wonder 9 semi automatic pistols would be better. Better still would be an AR-15.
The first gun I bought for myself was a CZ-82 chambered in 9mm Makarov. It was an excellent choice and I still have that gun.
Should have opted for the .357 in the same size. One revolver, two cartridges. Get used to the .38, then move up. I have an old .357 with a 6” barrel. That sucker doesn’t kick at all with .38 and barely does so with the .357.
The last gun I bought was a Taurus .38sp, 2” barrel DAO (double action only).
I bought an aftermarket Viridian laser grip for it. Nice little piece.
The trigger pull is pretty good. I was surprised how little recoil there is.
My only revolver. No, that’s not true- I have an old Colt Police Special chambered in .32. I don’t think I could safely shoot it, the barrel doesn’t look good. It was my grandfather’s. He actually shot someone with it back in 1910.
Thank God he didn’t kill him.

The first gun that I bought for myself when I turned 18 was a Remington Model 700 ADL in 270 Win.

Good choice. A Remington 700 Police Sniper with the heavy barrel chambered in 300 WinMag is on my list to get.

Someone suggested that I sell it all, but I wouldn't want to burden anyone else with those loud instruments of death.
Conflicts and confrontation are caused by economic disparity and lack of communication. I've decided that the right way to go is to be prepared to communicate and reason with people and appeal to their better side and everything will turn out for the better.
My Dad always kept his . 38 special in the night stand drawer by his bedside. Its a good first gun choice. We have one but it stays in the gun locker because we carry semi autos.
Yesterday we were at Bass Pro in the gun department. I was looking at range bags and there were three black guys waiting around there near the gun counter. They got called up and the employee who was chatting with Mr. GG2 about his new CZ P07 said that people are flocking to buy guns even if they dont have a clue how to shoot because of the govt tyranny and they’re scared civil war is coming.
