“As far as we can tell, FOID applications are at all time highs and renewals so intense that the ISP delays are running afoul of statutory requirements.”

This has been the case for years. While renewing my CCL a couple years ago I actually got ahold of a very nice lady who worked in the renewal section. I learned that there were only 4 people handling both the CCL and FOID renewals for the entire State. Two them were out on medical leaves.

According to her, and I had no reason to doubt her, they had to process over 60,000 renewal applications a month.

So I’d tend to think most of this funding will be going to that. There aren’t enough Illinois troopers to even think about any attempt at organized confiscation effort. And it’s just my opinion but I doubt very many of them would go along with it.

For years there were huge delays in issuance of FOID and more recently CCL’s. State Police were chronically understaffed for this function. The law has specific time limits and I believe recent court rulings have forced compliance. I think that’s all this is. No gun confiscation from the law abiding...at this time.

And all but 2 county Sheriff's said they won't enforce the ban.

Not for long, anyway, if there were any/many. Too many citizen still understand this.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn’t love freedom enough. And even more - we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

I sincerely hope you’re right.

Another thing, as far as the “assault weapon” registration, perhaps they’re gearing up to go after those who didn’t register…..
