Interesting how Reyes obfuscated and dodged a direct answer to the question if that was a normal thing for a SEAL to do when a team member went into the water.

Not really. Leave no man behind is drilled into the SEALs early and often.
Additionally, two usually will have a better chance of survival than one by himself.
