Aaron Jones grew up idolizing Emmitt Smith and the Cowboys.
The Green Bay running back found a new, and most painful, way to torment the all-time rushing leader's former team.
Jones ran for three touchdowns, Jordan Love threw for three more in his postseason debut, Darnell Savage returned an interception 64 yards for a score and the Packers handed the Cowboys their first home loss since the '22 opener in a 48-32 wild-card stunner Sunday.
“This was my dad’s team,” Jones, who shared a moment with Smith before the game and now has 488 yards in four career games against the Cowboys, said of his late father. “You always want to be like your father, so that’s how it became my team. Dallas is a special place to me, so it’s a full-circle moment.”
Even against a team that had won 16 consecutive home games.
Green Bay (10-8) will visit top-seeded San Francisco in the divisional round next weekend.
Dak Prescott threw two interceptions before three mostly empty touchdown passes in another playoff flop for him and the No. 2 seed Cowboys (12-6).
The first home loss for the Cowboys since now-retired Tom Brady and Tampa Bay beat them 16 months ago was also the most points the franchise has allowed in a postseason game. The previous high was 38.
The Cowboys, who haven’t reached an NFC championship game since the most recent of their five Super Bowl titles 28 years ago, didn’t trail by more than eight points at AT&T Stadium this season before falling behind 27-0 in the first half.
The loss will raise questions about the future of Dallas coach Mike McCarthy after the Cowboys lost their playoff opener at home for the second time in three postseasons under the former Green Bay coach.

Well it’s nice to see McCarthy helping the Packers to win a playoff game for once.
The anger here in Dallas/Fort Worth is palpable this am. Good thing most of the town is shut down due to weather. New owner? Not until Jerry dies. New coach? Possibly. New QB? Unknown. I am not a Cowboys fan, in fact I quit watching the NFL after the Colon blow, but around here you kind of have to listen to it.
Packers should at least give them a game, Niners slipped a bit at the end of the regular season.
At least we have the Rangers.
When the game started, I knew it was going to be downhill from there.....................
I think I’ll just sit this one out..............................again......................
Packer coach almost blew it. With a 32 point lead and six minutes to go, he puts in the subs. The Cowboys score 16 quick points and almost recover an onside kick. Dumb move by the Packer coach.
The Cowboys were so dominant at home all season although they barely beat the Lions. That they failed to show up as the #2 seed in a home playoff game and getting trounced too is a little stunning. After such a successful regular season its going to be hard for Jerry to blow it all up or figure out what changes are necessary.
And if Jordan Love got hurt? I guarantee there were probably some Cowboys players that wanted to hurt him at that point.
Dak didn’t give up nearly all those 48 GB points.
Belichick will tighten up their D, which will make them a more competitive playoff team.
What was funny is, apparently the slogan on all the helmets yesterday was “Be Love”. Bwahahahahaha!
The real stunner will be if the Iggles win tonight.
The game has passed Belichick by.
With now college football essentially being an NFL Farm System, young players can step right in, like C.J. Stroud has.
;-)
Jerry Jones in his arrogance has ruined a once great franchise. The cowgirls haven’t been Americas team since Jones arrived on the scene.
Jimmy Johnson & great team players saved his ass once.
He put Love back in the game. And you don’t get hurt handing off the ball. And the Packers threw an incomplete pass on third down losing a 40 second runoff before the 2 minute mark. Clock management was poor.
The 49ers will end the dream, but Love is an upper tier talent. The future looks bright for Green Bay.
I had turned it off by then, I didn’t realize he put him back in.
DaK Prescott is the most over rated QB in the NFL.
He is such a huge choke artist.
MacCarthy will probably get fired. He will be the sacrificial lamb for Jerry. In reality, the issue is Prescott sucks.
The question is what coach would want to work for Jerry? He is constantly second guessing the coaching staff.
