Nick Saban’s retiring as the University of Alabama football coach, ESPN reported Wednesday afternoon, turning a long inevitability into a stark reality and sending shockwaves throughout the college football world.
It ends arguably the greatest run in college football history where the once famously-nomadic Saban finally planted roots and rebuilt a decaying empire.
By reviving a struggling Crimson Tide program — winning 80.6% of his games and seven national titles — Saban placed his name among the all-time greats. That includes Paul “Bear” Bryant, the Alabama coach from six whose national title mark Saban passed in 2020.

He’s 72… gotta call it quits sometime.
We’re gonna get Dabo back. Him or Dan Lanning from Oregon.
That’s a good one. Here’s another:
Folks who wear Auburn shirts generally went to Auburn.
Folks who wear ‘Bama shirts generally went to Wal-Mart!!
RTR!!! Gonna miss you Coach.
You sound like a Michigan State fan…
They made it to the top four, brought the Natty Champs to OT in his last game.
Hahaha....I LIKE that one...Thanks...
HA! Good to know…..my grandson is a Junior at Alabama, my granddaughter a fresh at Auburn.
I really don't know.
Certainly, he has supported some woke causes. I'm not sure if that is his view or the folks he works for -- University of Alabama. My personal opinion (he did not consult me), is to mostly stay out of public life. His standing in the public has little upside left, but he could take a big fall based on where that standing is now.
He's made himself a very wealthy man. As an example, he owns or partially owns several Mercedes dealerships. And, those dealerships do an excellent job with his involvement! I know about this from first hand experience.
SEC Shorts - Alabama fan still wishes they had hired Rich Rodriguez

Auburn grad, Alabama grad, and Tennessee grad are in a bar having drinks...
They all three got up and went to the restroom.....
After pissing, the Auburn grad went to the sink and turned on hot water, liberally soaped hands and arms up to his elbows, scrubbed and rinsed...He looked at the other two and said “At Auburn, they taught us cleanliness...”
The Alabama grad went to the sink, barely turned on the water, got a little soap on his fingers and rinsed...He looked at the other two and said “At Alabama, they taught us thriftiness...”
The Tennessee grad turned and walked to the door, then turned and said to the other two “At Tennessee, they taught us not to piss on our hands...”
That’s a good one too. I heard it originally as a Marine, Soldier and Sailor are having drinks...
...and that's the real reason. What with the stupid transfer portal and NIL $$...college fb ain't what it used to be...yeah, and age, I get that, but the portal and NIL were the real deal breakers here.
My wife, who is a UNC grad, tells it as UNC, NC State, and Duke...
If what I am hearing is true, it’s not good news. Apparently his wife is having some health issues, and that in fact, it was a fairly sudden decision for him to step down.
I heard Miss Terry missed a game for the first time, this season. And I've heard that there was a bad diagnosis for her, I don't know exactly what it could be, but most likely that is the reason for his retirement.
You could be right. I’ve heard reports about Miss Terry being diagnosed with Early Onset Dementia. I hope that’s not true but it would explain his sudden retirement.
Bama fans are still in shock and mourning, but we wish them the best. They have been great assets to the State of Alabama.
