Nick Saban’s retiring as the University of Alabama football coach, ESPN reported Wednesday afternoon, turning a long inevitability into a stark reality and sending shockwaves throughout the college football world.
It ends arguably the greatest run in college football history where the once famously-nomadic Saban finally planted roots and rebuilt a decaying empire.
By reviving a struggling Crimson Tide program — winning 80.6% of his games and seven national titles — Saban placed his name among the all-time greats. That includes Paul “Bear” Bryant, the Alabama coach from six whose national title mark Saban passed in 2020.

SEC Title game will take the two teams with the best record, like the Big 12 does.
I think I’m having a heart attack over hear.
In 1970, there were 11 bowl games...
In 1980, there were 15 bowl games...
in 2023, there were 43 bowl games...
If you recall he had some eye problems at the start of the season. He said the doctor told him he yells too much.
He’ll be the first Commissioner of College Football in 36 months
Doesn’t look like it.
Well, Tide did beat Georgia……..which is a BIG deal in the South, so hardly a loser.
you can't count on the Jimmy and the Joes to stick around after one year....and you're constantly having to put up with arrogant players because they're getting paid big big bucks....
“Re: “How is the SEC ending??? Please tell us....”
May I toss in my own opinion?
The SEC has grown from 10 core teams to 16 teams next year.
I think that dilutes the talent and dilutes the passion.
It also means that some SEC teams will have a less demanding schedule than others.
Plus, the National Playoffs expand next year - eight teams, I think - which will further dilute the talent and the passion.
More games, more injuries, more top players staying away from bowl games to protect their future professional careers.”
How in the world is expanding the playoffs to 12 teams diluting the talent and passion? It’s about time D1 football starts actually winning Natty’s on the field instead of being chosen by figure skating judges. Every division including high school decides it on the field. There will be more excitement with possible upsets etc....should be 16 teams IMO. Or more. There will be less players opting out if they are playing for a Natty.
Ambivalent about him not telling the incoming recruits. Now his final act was to decieve the kids who came to play for him.
Amen FRiend, from a Gator.
Great run Coach.
May God bless,
Tatt
They just had a 5 star recruit decommit at Alabama....
Yea, may be headed to OSU Buckeyes.
It is quite common for a coach to wait until the kids are signed, though.
New portal rules. When a HC leaves the portal opens for 30-days! Caleb Downs just followed Ohio State. OSU putting a package together for him.
I remember when he first came to Alabama - the guys on the floor where I worked were ecstatic - so much so that I said to one of them that was a preacher “I hear Jesus was going to come back today”. “Really?” “Yep but then He heard Nick Saban was already here so He didn’t have a reason to show up”.
Classy as usual.
I’m unimpressed.
Was it covered by AFLAC?
There are rumors of ill health, although that’s not confirmed. He and Miss Terry will be terribly missed, They left their mark on Alabama beyond football. They will be terribly missed,
As for myself, I’m in deep mourning and listening to my “Angry Metal “ playlist on Spotify.
No one can replace Coach Saban. The only name I can come up with is DeBoer from Washington. There are strong rumors about Lanning from Oregon, which is worrisome. I don’t want him because he isn’t good enough.
Bama Nation thanks Coach Nick Saban and Miss Terry Saban for seventeen years of service. We love you!
What in the actual …., are you talking about? You’re going to have to expand on that one.
