“One in five employers reported that recent college grads are generally unprepared when it comes to interviewing for a job.”

Maybe one of these Gen Z kids could invent a video game that teaches interviewing skills. ;)

“For that same reason, 48% of employers are offering remote or hybrid positions to older employees...”

He might be a lazy Gen Xer who smokes weed everyday and doesn’t want to change out of his pajamas, but at least when something needs to be done, he can do it!

Salaries are not considered to be participation trophies.

Yes, indeed. Here’s an old picture of me at an interview. It’s from the 1970s.
I’m the guy on the left telling the interviewer just what the score is.

Did I get that job? To be honest, I can’t remember.

You don’t make much eye contact when you’re texting. I predicted years ago that cell phones would cause developmental problems in kids. A huge amount of information is imparted by gestures, expressions, eye movements, etc. These can totally alter the meaning of words themselves in conversations. And, the development of empathy. Kids don’t learn to interpret or use those when their main form of communication relies on anonymous electrons hurtling through space.

We know what the bleep we are doing, will excel while doing it, and will do it wherever and whenever it needs to be done.

I know because hubby rolled that way for four decades.

And he had plenty of company among his peers.

Not so much in the next gen.

The indust6rial plant from which I retired a number of years ago found that more than 10% of so called high school graduates applying for entry level jobs couldn’t fill out the basic application form. We turned them away as that was an indication of their inability to read job directives and safety instructions.

It’s easy to chuckle at this and one would like to think they would try to adjust for the better but the reality is that this cadre of underemployed malcontents are easy picking for Leftist grievance merchants.

probably showing up late, if at all, covered in tattoos and piercings then proceed to say they demand to work from home.

My idiot teens were the same way: “I’m not going to work for a lousy $5 an hour!”

I’d make them put out there EMPTY palms and ask them if they see any MONEY in either. Get your butt to work, ya bum!

I can just imagine the kinds of salaries today’s crop of dorks are demanding. I’ll bet they still have empty palms too, LOL!

P.S. All grew up to be functioning members of society and NONE of them returned to live in my basement. As if I’d let them in the first place. ;)

We had practice interview sessions even in high school business classes when I was in school. On those days, we were expected to dress in business attire and were critiqued on that as well as our responses to questions by the interviewer.

Government public skools have done a great disservice to an entire generation of students. The next generation doesn’t seem to be getting anything better.

Early Gen-X (nee. 1964-1970) are generally good workers but later gens may have just said, “Those hard workers will cover for me. Pass the bong, bruh.”
YMMV
