Chicago Board of Education reportedly seeking to remove police from schools this year

The Chicago Board of Education, which runs Chicago Public Schools (CPS), is reportedly seeking to remove police officers from schools in the next academic year.

"Alderman Nicholas Sposato (38th) said that two school system sources have told him that the school board could make the decision as soon as its Jan. 25 meeting, possibly opting not to renew its approximately $10 million contract with the city for police officers," Nadig Newspapers reported.

"They told me there’s going to be no SROs," Sposato said.

The Chicago Board of Education is said to be seeking to strip Local School Councils, made up of parents, teachers and students, of their power to choose whether or not to have school resource officers (SROs) at their schools. After taking the decision away from local councils, the board will remove all officers from school grounds, according to local outlet WBEZ.

"So much for democracy with the decision to get rid of SROs," Sposato said, who also said the move would be a "terrible idea."

Taft High School Principal Mark Grishaber shared concerns about the potential decision, saying safety is their primary concern.

According to Grishaber, surveys show that parents, faculty and students at his school support police officers in schools 80-90%. He added that despite support for SROs, he had been told the board had already "made its decision."

When running for mayor, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson condemned police officers being on school grounds, saying that "armed officers have no place in schools in communities already struggling with over-incarceration, criminalization, profiling and mistrust."

However, Johnson approved Local School Councils voting on the presence of police officers in schools after being elected.

The Chicago Board of Education will reportedly vote this summer on whether to renew the police contract.

“communities already struggling with over-incarceration”

People have been afraid to say the obvious: BLM set off a black crime wave. Mass incarceration worked. It will work again when communities get sick of the crime wave.

The Chicago School Board are cheap bastards. I’m guessing they will expect the Feds to step in a pay for officers.

The problem is, that smacking a troublesome black kid will cause civil unrest and multi million dollar lawsuits.

Yet walk through an airport where EVERYONE has been screened for such deadly weapons as nail files and assault nail clippers and notice how many armed police and CBP officers there are.

Priorities folks, priorities.

I recall those days. Men would have their rifles in the back window on display, truck engine running, doors unlocked and in the bar having a few drinks. They could come out and both the pickup and gun would still be there.

Imagine doing this today in Chicago.

There have been Chicago Police officers in Chicago high schools since the 1960’s, when the gang problem grew exponentially in the city. It is estimated there are over a 100 gangs in Chicago and over 100,000 gang members or wannabes, many teenagers, in their ranks. Not that they all attend school (I suspect most drop out) but there was a reason coppers were there. That reason still exists. This is an even greater nightmare about to happen. As for Chicago’s board of uneducation, one of the worst in the country, this is another “stuff the pockets” of incompetent at best teachers with additional dollars, and the hell with the kids and their safety. After all, this new mayor was a Chicago public school teacher and he exhibits the “quality” of his education and skill sets, daily. Chitown’s ongoing self destruction on display. Let’s go Brandon....Johnson.

If the police officers are removed from the Chicago Public Schools, does this also mean that the metal detectors are going to be removed as well? The police operated the metal detectors and inspected persons entering the schools because numerous “students” were in the habit of bringing guns to classroom buildings.

It’s not enough what happens on Chicago streets, they want to be sure the shooters on the street get into the schools. The Dims of Illinois/Chicago are evil people.
