Three years after a mob stormed the Capitol, a third of Republican voters now believe FBI operatives stoked the January 6 attack, according to remarkable new polling.
A quarter of U.S. adults believe that statement is 'definitely' or 'probably' true, according to a new Washington Post / University of Maryland poll.
The data come as President Joe Biden prepares to hold his first campaign event of the year stressing the democracy issue near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, in a potential rematch where former President Donald Trump has repeatedly called attention to jailed rioters and said he will pardon a 'large portion' of them.
Survey takers asked respondents: 'Do you think it is true or false that FBI operatives organized and encouraged the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021?'
It was a reference to conspiracy theories about a 'false flag' operation, that the FBI has denounced.
The number of U.S. adults who said they were 'not sure' was 26 per cent,' while 48 per cent said it was probably or definitely false.
It comes despite about 700 January 6 pleading guilty to charges including trespassing on Capitol grounds and assaulting police officers. Video images that day widely shared on social media and replayed by the House January 6 committee show rioters using flag poles and fire extinguishers as weapons as they overran police barricades. One hundred forty police officers guarding the Capitol that day were injured.
Belief in the FBI conspiracy is stronger among Trump supporters and Republicans. Trump began his March rally in Waco, Texas with a choir of January 6 inmates singing the 'Star Spangled Banner.'
Among is supporters, 44 per cent say it is definitely or probably true that FBI operatives organized or encouraged the attack.

When the police escort you around the capitol, I wouldn’t go so far as saying the “stormed” the capitol. It was more like a guided tour and everyone was waiting in line for their turn.

Peaceful demonstrators were strolling towards the capitol when government goons caused it to turn into a rout. Then a Capitol police killer murdered an innocent lady who wasn’t bothering anyone. Pelosi and AOC weren’t even in the building although they said they were cowering in fear of their worthless lives. AOC had visions of being raped by a big old MAGA guy, but it never happened. No one even asked her for a date.
Democrats need to line up and have Jan 6 branded on their foreheads as this occupies their daydreams. They never want to forget this but have conveniently forgotten the horrific destruction of BLM and Antifa. These swamp creatures have a way about them that thrives on mayhem: rioting, looting carried out by their constituents that include their typical negro and drug addled honkys.
