Pfff.
My son and I are hoping for a Carrington event. If something like that should happen, we should be able to see the aurora all the way down here in Texas.
Short that, we’re going to have to take a winter vacation in Iceland or winter cruise in Norway. We want to see the aurora.
You really don't want a Carrington event. There was little electrical infrastructure last time that happened. Today, virtually every building has electrical wiring. Expect widespread fires in buildings.
I live in southeast Idaho. In the 23 years I've been here, we have had one really good auroral display. We get weak ones on a pretty regular basis. Taking a vacation north of the typical "view line" is the best prospect for seeing one live.
