i love these articles that declare boomers bad folks for not turning their homes over to younger people.
I’m not going to a retirement village, period.
You are my hero. Seriously.
Respectfully,
Fellow Boomer
A lot of the boomer fascination is because people and even the media just leave out the “Silent Generation” which lays about 40 years worth of people in the boomer column.
The government has confiscated $300,000 from me via social security. I'm 67, working full time and still paying maximum social security. I expect a substantial part of that to be returned. It's not a gift. It was confiscated and the purchasing power debased by the money printing politicians.
Younger generations have no clue of the sacrifices made during WWII. My parents told me a few stories, without harping on it.
“The majority have either sky high college debt or no real career prospects.”
Or both.
Frank Zappa was right.
And generational stereotyping is what idiots do in place of actual thinking.
Just for that, I'm keeping my 2400SF 3BR 4BA Townhome and these millenial/gen-x'ers/whatever the eff they are can kiss my ass. I was going to downsize and pay cash for something smaller, not going to do so anymore. This place is paid for, owe $0 on it. No need to move now. Hell, I'll stay here just to piss them off some more!
Whiny entitled little bishes.
This is a crap article.
The subtitle leans on “greed” an undefined term - but very emotive in its blame. Was there ever a time without “greed”? If it’s a constant, how can in explain any change? Or do we somehow have waves of “greed”? To address this sensibly (never done) we need to define and measure greed.
Then there is a lot of talk about immigration. From my scan (more than the article deserves) there is little to no distinction between legal and illegal immigration. I take money from my bank legally. Does that mean that I’m no different than a bank robber? Perhaps because I make withdrawals, robbing banks should be condoned. We should distinguish between the legal and the illegal.
That's the reason they're called the Greatest Generation and sadly, there'll never be another like them the way this country has gone so far to the left.

My wife retired today after 22 years with her department and 28 years as a police/fire/EMS dispatcher. At 65, she is ready to retire. I'm still working full time building leading edge code for DoD at age 67. Both of my homes are free and clear of debt. I'm not selling or moving anywhere. This is my home when I retire...debt free...because I managed my resources carefully. I had 3 sons. The oldest died at 32 after 4 open heart surgeries, a pacemaker, multiple artificial valves. Z-Pak caused sudden cardiac death. My middle son has degrees in Physics and Business Administration and is a real estate broker in 5+ states. The RE market has crashed, so he is applying to work for Loomis in Pensacola, FL. My youngest is managing a Valvoline shop in Shawnee, OK. He has one son. Just because you have children is no guarantee that they will.
we looked into moving this year- it was an expensive proposition when we don’t have to do it.
i’ll reassess in 10 years, maybe by then i will have to bite the bullet.
But now i am enjoying my house pool and privacy and it’s been paid off for years.
My parents and family told me stories too - those people really did save the nation ... An uncle who was at D-Day - on a ‘tin can’ working as a radio man. He wrote about that time years later and about friends who died there. A friend of my father’s who was a pilot - bombed Germans. I knew him when I was a kid. None of those people talked about their experiences until years later. They really were a great generation.
.because I managed my resources carefully....
You made good decisions and now they are paying off.
Lots of younger folks make bad decisions in their 20’s and 30’s and will pay for them in their 60’s.
Agreed. Very insulting..but one thing they forget is that the wacky leftist ideas were actually not a product of the “boomer” generation but of the prior one, the “Greatest Generation.” Those who didn’t go to war…or, oddly enough, those who did and then went through college on the GI Bill….took over the educational system in the US and spent their academic careers trying to destroy our country and our faith in our ideals.
All of these things, from the leftist riots of 1968 to the faith-destroyingVatican II, were the products of the generation before the Boomers…but they were our teachers and we had no defense.
Yikes, Jane Fonda? They need to stay silent and all of us need to forget them... I'm staying with the 'the greatest' was the one before us...
Obama is a boomer.
I believe the tactic is referred to as "DIVIDE and CONQUER!"
Quit electing leaders and elect representatives.
