Day 672: Dec 27
Today, there are a lot of updates from the southeast.
First of all, when it comes to yesterday’s strike, recently released high-resolution satellite footage revealed that the Russian warship received fatal damage. Moreover, it can also be clearly seen that the secondary detonation inflicted damage to the surrounding port infrastructure, not just surrounding ships. Ukrainian Navy Spokesman Pletenchuk stated that the strike may have killed up to 80 Russian personnel. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that 1 person was killed and 2 were wounded. Later, it turned out that at least 33 are missing and 19 are wounded. Some sources also reported that apart from thousands of shells, the warship carried at least 2 “Caliber” missiles and 4 “KAB-500” air-dropped bombs. Russian analysts complained that the information about the delivered military cargo was clearly leaked by Ukrainian partisans and urged the Russian military to secure the Russian logistical hubs.
In the meantime, Ukrainian partisans from the Atesh Group leaked even more footage of the delivered Russian military cargo, this time near the harbors in Evpatoria. Ukrainian partisans revealed that Russians are sending artillery systems “Gvozdika” via the railways. Shortly after that, Atesh partisans revealed that another echelon with military trucks and other equipment was being transported through Dzankoi. So, Russians are not only using direct railway connections to transport equipment via Crimea but also use their navy to transport additional equipment to the Crimean ports, from where it is sent to the front line. Unfortunately for Russians, due to the leaked information, the relocation process never goes smoothly. Local residents of Armiansk and Tokmak reported that they heard multiple explosions. Russian sources claimed that Ukrainians conducted a HIMARS raid on the warehouses in Armians and at least 3 bases in Tokmak. Ukrainian analysts stated that this is the result of coordinated work between Ukrainian partisans and Ukrainian forces.
Since the most intense clashes are taking place in the east, the frequency and intensity of Ukrainian strikes in this region is even higher. Today, Ukrainian Tavriisk Group of Forces Commander Tarnavskyi stated that, so far, the Russian effort to capture Avdiivka is still the main offensive operation of the Russian forces. He stated that Russians fear that they would need to repeat attritional frontal urban assaults reminiscent of Bakhmut, which is why they are still trying to bypass and encircle Avdiivka. Tarnavskyi stated that Russian forces are constantly transferring forces, primarily cheap prisoner Storm-Z units, to the Avdiivka direction to support attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses.
So far, Ukrainians are tightly controlling the line. As you remember, last time, I told you that Ukrainian forces in Avdiivka received a new batch of drones. And this delivery came in handy because Russians started using more and more tanks in their renewed wave of offensive operations.
Ukrainian fighters from Special Force showed how they targeted a Russian tank near Krasnohorivka, causing an immediate detonation and a massive explosion. Another tank was hit trying to assume a firing position to hit Ukrainians, however, the tank got hit by a drone, the crew lost control, and the tank fell into a ditch. Another Russian tank tried to pull it out and evacuate but got hit with the drone as well. Other detachments also released footage of drone strikes.
In order to complicate the Russian advancement even more, Ukrainians are also targeting the Russian logistics in the region. Judging by the Russian reports, Ukrainian HIMARS crews expanded their reach because, over the last week, they hit at least 5 logistical hubs: Donetsk, Horlivka, Makiivka, Yasynuvata, and Illovaisk.
In Donetsk, Ukrainians are continuing their defueling campaign, targeting Russian fuel depots. Recently, Ukrainians also hit fuel infrastructure in Makiivka, which is a twin city of Donetsk. Ukrainians also hit an unspecified target in Illoviask – the fire here looks exactly as in Donetsk when Ukrainians hit fuel depots, so it is highly likely that Illovaisk, which is located just 15 kilometers from Donetsk, also became a part of the Ukrainian defueling campaign.

Day 672 of the Russian full-scale military aggression against Ukraine continues.
The enemy continues to ignore the laws and customs of war, uses terror tactics, launches strikes, and shells both military and civilian targets. The invaders are actively using tactical aircraft and FPV quadcopters, conducting assault operations with the support of armored vehicles.
During the day of December 27, there were 49 combat engagements. The enemy launched 67 air strikes, carried out 12 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, the Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and injuries. Private residential buildings, hospitals and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.
VOLYN and POLISSYA AXIS: no significant changes. No signs of formation of an offensive group. Certain units of the armed forces of Belarus continue their missions in the areas bordering Ukraine.
SIVERSHCHYNA and SLOBOZHANSHCHYNA AXIS: the adversary maintains its military presence in the areas of Russia bordering Ukraine. The enemy continues its sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shelling Ukrainian settlements from the territory of Russia and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. More than 20 settlements came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Volodymyrivka, Novovasylivka, Popivka (Sumy oblast), Losivka, Bochkove, Krasne Pershe (Kharkiv oblast).
KUPYANSK AXISs: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 8 attacks in the vicinity of Synkivka and east of Ivanivka (Kharkiv oblast). The occupiers launched an air strike near Ivanivka (Kharkiv oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10 settlements, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestove (Kharkiv oblast).
LYMAN AXIS: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 3 attacks in the area of Serebryanske forestry (Luhansk oblast). In the area, the occupiers, with air support, made unsuccessful attempts to breach Ukrainian defense. The invaders launched an air strike near the settlements of Spirne (Donetsk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at more than 10 settlements, including Nevske (Luhansk oblast), Torske, Serebryanka, Spirne, Rozdolivka (Donetsk oblast).
BAKHMUT AXIS: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 2 attacks of the adversary near Bohdanivka (Donetsk oblast). Around 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Kalynivka, Klishchiyivka, Andriyivka, Stupochky (Donetsk oblast).
AVDIYIVKA AXIS: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 12 enemy attacks east of Novobakhmutivka, Avdiyivka, and 15 more attacks in the vicinities of Sjeverne, Pervomaiske and Nevelske (Donetsk oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10 settlements, including Keramik, Stepove, Avdiyivka, Tonenke, Pervomaiske, Nevelske (Donetsk oblast).
MARYINKA AXIS: the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the vicinities of Maryinka and Novomykhailivka (Donetsk oblast), where the enemy, with air support, conducted 3 failed attacks on Ukrainian positions. The settlements of Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Kurakhove, Pobjeda, Yelyzavetivka were under artillery and mortar fire of the occupiers.
SHAKHTARSKE AXIS: the enemy conducted no offensives. The invaders launched an air strike near the settlement of Zolota Nyva (Donetsk oblast). The adversary fired artillery and mortars at around 10 settlements, including Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Urozhaine (Donetsk oblast).
ZAPORIZHZHIA AXIS: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 2 adversary attacks west of Verbove and Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia oblast). In that area, the adversary made failed attempts to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions. The invaders launched air strikes in the vicinity of Orikhiv and Preobrazhenka (Zaporizhzhia oblast). More than 25 settlements, including Poltavka, Luhivske, Novodanylivka, Novoandriyivka, Shcherbaky, Kamyanske, Plavni (Zaporizhzhia oblast), came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
ODESA operational-strategic group, KHERSON AXIS: the adversary fired artillery at the city of Kherson, the settlements of Beryslav, Stanislav (Kherson oblast). Also, the invaders launched air strikes in the vicinities of Chervonyi Mayak, Zmiyivka, and Novoberyslav (Kherson oblast).
The occupiers do not abandon their intention to drive Ukrainian units out of their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro. Thus, during the day, the enemy made 10 unsuccessful assaults. The attacks were repelled and the enemy suffered significant losses. The Ukrainian troops are holding the line, continue to retain their positions and fire for effect on the enemy.
During the day of December 27, the Ukrainian Air Force launched air strikes on 10 concentrations of troops, weapons, and military equipment of the occupiers.
The Ukrainian missile troops hit 5 concentrations of troops, weapons, and military equipment, 2 command posts, and 4 ammunition depots of the russian invaders.

I wish you health, fellow Ukrainians!
First of all, I would like to thank the defenders of our skies. Over the past evening and night, they managed to shoot down most of the 46 “Shahed” drones. This is a significant result. The result, which proves every day the soundness of our actions and our communication with partners: Ukrainian air defense, our mobile firing groups, our anti-aircraft gunners succeed in defending the state. We are already planning international events in January and February intensively to boost Ukraine’s strength. We are working on new defense packages.
Today, I held a large meeting with the executives of Ukrainian defense enterprises – more than 100 companies of the industry were represented. Obviously, this is not everyone. But these are the ones who are doing a remarkable job, the ones who were able to come to Kyiv today. I presented state awards to the heads of enterprises and, through them, to the teams that have accomplished the most.
In total, our defense industry now employs about 300 thousand people, and this is one of the greatest achievements of our country in several years. Ukraine’s defense industry is not just recovering, it is becoming as productive as it needs to be for a modern, technology-driven warfare. Many private initiatives are already in operation: four out of five companies in our defense industry are private businesses. Many state-owned enterprises that had been inactive for decades have now launched their production, including new types of weapons.
For the next year, we have set ourselves crystal clear goals in terms of artillery, drones, missiles, and armored vehicles. One of our major political results this year is an agreement with our partners, particularly the United States, on co-production of weapons. Establishment of new production facilities. Localization in Ukraine. Expansion of the repair base. All this contributes to Ukraine’s defense and economic robustness, resulting in considerable GDP growth and good jobs. I am grateful to each and every person who develops our industry, to everyone who contributes their efforts and ideas to the development of the Ukrainian defense industry. And I am confident that our defense industry – given such continuous development – will eventually make it into the top 10 most productive and powerful defense complexes in the world. This is the true potential of Ukraine, and our country can definitely become one of the global security donors and one of the strongest members of NATO. We are working for this.
I also held a number of meetings with ministers today. With the Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine and the Minister of Finance we discussed the next year’s budget. There was a meeting with the Minister of Defense.
Also, I had a meeting with the Minister of Internal Affairs. A report on the Russian strike on Kherson yesterday: unfortunately, one police officer was killed – Lieutenant Ihor Misiunia, Kirovohrad Main Department of the National Police. My condolences to the family and friends... Four people were injured, including two police officers, all of them received the necessary assistance. All services are working to restore electricity supply to Kherson. Yesterday 70% of the city was cut off from the grid. Critical infrastructure is powered by generators. Normal operations are gradually being restored. Gas supply to Kherson has been restored.
The Minister of Internal Affairs also reported on the functioning of the entire MIA system. Emergency response, mine clearance, provision of weapons and equipment to our National Guard and National Police units fighting on the frontline.
By the way, I would like to commend the employees of the National Police of Ukraine who faithfully serve the state and society, defending the country on the frontline together with everyone else in the Defense and Security Forces of Ukraine. Especially the warriors of the “Fury” Brigade of the National Police. Police Private Vitalii Melnychuk, Police Corporal Andrii Molochnyi, Senior Sergeant Dmytro Hanenko, Junior Lieutenant Bohdan Horuk, Lieutenant Oleksandr Pyatnychuk, Senior Lieutenants Oleksandr Hladyr and Ivan Krotov, and Police Captain Mykhailo Hlavatskikh. Thank you, guys, for your exemplary actions in combat!
Of course, today I extend my congratulations and our common gratitude to all the counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine – today is their professional day. A surplus of electricity was recorded in the power system, which was transferred to Poland. There were also restrictions on renewable energy generation
POWER GENERATION AND CONSUMPTION
There is no electricity deficit in the power system. Yesterday, there was a surplus during the daytime hours. To balance the system during the daytime hours (from 13:00 to 16:00), surplus electricity in the amount of 600 MWh was transferred to the power system of Poland.
Restrictions on electricity generation from renewables were also applied during the day.
During the day, two TPP units in different regions of the country went into emergency repair. One power unit was transferred from emergency repair to reserve.
As of 10:00 a.m., 6 TPP units are in reserve and can be brought back online as needed.
The situation is under control. The electricity generated by Ukrainian power plants is sufficient to meet the needs of consumers. Commercial electricity exports are also planned. No blackout schedules are in place.
CONSEQUENCES OF SHELLING
Yesterday, the enemy shelled the territory of a thermal power plant in Donetsk region, damaging the plant’s equipment and the adjacent power grid. Another shelling took place in the morning.
The shelling caused a power outage in the region, which cut off electricity to consumers.
In Chernihiv region, enemy shelling damaged the networks of a regional power company. This led to the disconnection of more than 2,000 household consumers.
SITUATION AT THE ZNPP
The water level in the cooling pond remains stable at 15.64 metres. This is sufficient to meet the plant’s needs.
IMPOST/EXPORT
Electricity imports totaled 11,808 MWh. There were no exports.

RUSSIA is the largest country in the world, in terms of its geographical size, and is dependent upon air travel. Following the invasion of Ukraine the two biggest aircraft manufacturers, Boeing and Airbus, applied sanctions against Russia which meant that Russia was no longer able to buy planes, parts, technology or maintenance directly.
This has caused major problems within Russia as more than 75% of of all of the aircraft in Russia at the start of the war were made by Boeing and Airbus and the global airline industry is dominated by these two manufacturers.
Russia has therefore been forced to scrap old planes for parts, fund purchases from the black market and is now attempting to scale up its own aircraft manufacturing industry. In this video I provide more details of the issues that Russia is facing and discuss the implications for the Russian Economy.
