Woah … what on earth is going on here?
The Indianapolis Colts have hit two of their players with suspensions for the rest of the 2023 season, which is a shocking decision by the franchise considering their spot in the NFL playoff race, according to ESPN.
The two players are wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie and cornerback Tony Brown, with the Colts citing conduct detrimental for their suspensions. No other reason than that was given.
For Indy’s 30-13 victory Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, each player was listed as a healthy scratch, with both coming in stunning fashion. Just days later, they were hit with suspensions from the Colts.
After the dub, Indianapolis brought their winning record to 8-6, and at the moment, they have the No. 7 spot — the last spot (where they would play my Miami Dolphins, who has the No. 2 seed) — in the AFC playoffs with three contests left on the schedule.
McKenzie’s suspension in particular is quite fascinating because wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr.‘s Week 16 status is uncertain at this time after taking a massive hit from Steelers’ Damontae Kazee. The Pittsburgh safety ended up being ejected and suspended for the rest of the campaign due to the smash.
Now obviously we have no idea what’s going on here, but if I had to guess, I’d say these suspensions are linked to either PED use or gambling, and with how secretive the Colts (and the NFL for that matter) are being about this whole thing, I think I’m gonna go ahead and ride with the latter.
And speaking of gambling, check out this pain slip that I had from Tuesday night:
Pain, just utter pain.
Ping!.................
Interesting though because if it was gambling or especially PEDs, you would think the league would handle the punishment. I can see a team trying to pre-emptively get a head of it, mostly to avert the team itself getting penalized, but this seems like a unusual move. Must be pretty bad.
wont make a difference Colts wont beat any playoff team, especially the Fins.
Makes me want to root for the Colts. Weren't they Tony Dungee's team?
As much as this league is promoting gambling, they should hold the mirror to their own faces. Quite honestly, if a player is gambling on his own team to win a game, I really don’t have a problem with that. If he’s betting on a game he’s not involved with, I don’t see the problem either.
Good riddance to bad garbage. I stopped watching NFL after the league and the owners refused to discipline the commie/pinko/black supremists who kneeled during the national anthem. Now, every time the NFL takes a shot, I cheer.
I remember when that happened.................
Yes.....................
And states legalizing gambling. It should be tightly regulated in Vegas and Atlantic City and Indian Reservations. That's it.
They used the wrong pronouns.
Such levels of secrecy and punishment always relate to something that will affect the team.
If I had to guess, its something having to do with wives/girlfriends of other players
Or domestic abuse, just like Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson.
I applaud the Colts for making the tough, but correct, decision. They have done well considering they have been playing with their backup QB most of the season and coming off a horrible season last year.
Colts also cut two other players in the preseason for gambling.
If it was domestic abuse, there would be a police report to contend with.................
“if a player is gambling on his own team to win a game, I really don’t have a problem with that”
Gonna have to respectfully disagree with that my friend.
If gambling on games was about winning and losing straight up yes but it’s not, it’s about point spread, which could possibly be manipulated by a player that needed a particular final score.
Having said that, I wouldn’t be surprised if players gambling on games isn’t far more widespread than we know.....and I doubt it’s limited to just football either.
Agree as well. A fair amount of shenanigans go on towards the ends of already-decided games, during “garbage time”. How much manipulation to beat the spread is happening? Unknown.
” I stopped watching NFL after the league and the owners refused to discipline the commie/pinko/black supremists who kneeled during the national anthem”
Me as well! F the NFL!
