This comes from the Harvard-Harris poll that everyone is talking about. Polls in general should be taken with a grain of salt and the HH polls have had horrific numbers lately. Still, this is reflective of a generational trend.
The numbers may not be this bad in real life, but they’re bad.
73% of voters agreed that the Hamas attacks of Oct 7 were “genocidal” and that they could not be justified. The numbers get worse though as you go down generationally.
40% of 35-44 year olds believed that the attacks could be justified and 60% of 18-24 year olds believe that they’re justified.
66% of 18-24 year olds say that the attack was genocidal and 60% believe that it can be justified “by the grievances of Palestinians”.
50% of 18-24 year olds support Hamas. 53% believe that people should feel free to call for the genocide of Jews.
Important caveat.
There are a number of reasons that these numbers are so bad. The educational system has become particularly toxic. Gen Z tends to get its information from the worse flavors of social media. It’s also the most diverse, therefore the most antisemitic.
But one reason these numbers are so awful is that Harvard-Harris only polled registered voters. Less than half of 18-24 year olds are registered voters and those who are tend to be far left and from lefty areas in the country.
So these numbers are less reflective of 18-24 years olds than of any other generation. They’re reflective of a quarter of 18-24 year olds from a population that is much more political and much more leftist. (It doesn’t make them any less horrific.)
What we’re seeing here is not simply generational, but educational. This is a population that is much more likely to have been processed through the university system, that is politically active and will take important governmental and business roles. Even if we’re talking about a quarter of the 18-24 population, this is the quarter that will be running things 10-20 years from now.
Second Caveat
I’ve pointed this out about previous Harvard Harris polls on Hamas and Israel.
If you study the results closely, the 18-24-year-old numbers don’t maintain ideological consistency. They do reflect growing extremism and hostility, but in some cases they also reflect moral ambiguity.
For example, 70% of 18-24-year-olds say that Israel is trying to avoid civilian casualties and 60% say that Israel is trying to commit genocide.
58% believe that Hamas is trying to commit genocide and 76% believe that Hamas can be negotiated with.
80% agree that Israel has a “right to defend itself against terror attacks by launching air strikes on targets in heavily populated Palestinian areas with warnings to those citizens.”
The moral of the story is that 18-24 year olds are also dumb and they will be more likely to reply without having a consistent position on some of these issues and to agree with whatever they’re being asked. That’s not the whole answer here, but it’s a factor.
It is the educational system that is indoctrinating these students. That is where the source of the problem lies.
These people VOTE and they reproduce...though not as much as they used to.
Due to that, hopefully The End of Civilization is a generation further off. ;)
Rush Limbaugh: ‘The education system is where young skulls full of mush are programmed and propagandized into the system.’
Miss you EVERY DAY, Rush!
Joseph Goebbels would be so proud.
The educational system that I went through, I believe, treated things quite differently than they do now. Admittedly, we didn’t have Hamas to deal with in those days, but our feelings about America & who are it’s enemies...well, we were pretty clear on that. Though I may not have realized it at the time, our educational system at that time was apparently more interested in education than indoctrination. The present “government” we have surely has much to do with that.
That poll indicates that many minds are now rotten, beyond healing.
Many young people in America and in the West are now supporting genocide apparently. WTF is going on!??
My first thought was, isn’t it wonderful what happens when you turn the choldrens’ education over to the federal government and teachers unions!
A major step toward fixing this for the future is to abolish the federal Department of Education, which has never improved education and has no Constitutional basis anyway.
Tell them what happens to all their “gay” friends in Muzzie lands
Need to publish the videos of the attack on Tik Tok or whatever the snowflakes watch.
No doubt. But the result is, the country is screwed. In 20 years they’ll be running everything.
I’m going to need to see a hell of a lot more proof of this than this poll before I buy the results.
The “justified” response is an explicit renunciation of the concept of war crimes. That should be posed immediately as a followup question.
That's not what the headline says.
And Tokyo Rose.
I think you see that same lack of empathy in the casual disregard for life and property you see with the rising crime rate among the age demographic. They just flat don’t care about anything but themselves and their own little world. The are the most selfish and egocentric generation we’ve have ever produced. As a group they have no moral compass, so they go with whatever is the trendy thing. Whatever Tik Toc tells them is cool and hip. As the old country song said, ‘If don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything’.
There's plenty of that. But I swear that I sometimes wonder if parents talk to their kids at all - ever - any more.
killing a terrorist organization who says it will wipe you off the map is now genocide, This could only come from a US university
That is all ages of voters, not just 18-24.
like they even know or care about any of that history....too busy playing grab ass....
