NY GOP Picks Mazi Melesa Pilip – a Registered Democrat – to Succeed Conservative George Santos to Represent New York’s 3rd Congressional District

New York Republicans chose Mazi Melesa Pilip to succeed George Santos in the US Congress.
In an unprecedented move, Congressional Republicans removed Santos from Congress after he was accused of a crime – Something Democrats would never think of doing.
Pilip will face former Rep. Tom Suozzi who is the Democrat Party’s candidate.
Mazi Pilip has been enrolled as Democrat since 2012 and served in the Israeli Defense Forces as an Ethiopian-born Jew who fled to Israel as a child.

Most elections in NY are decided in the Democrat primary, so maybe she wanted to have more influence on who the nominee was.

"I was a Democrat when I was young and foolish."
I was raised a Democrat. I voted for Carter because I thought that he was a military officer and engineer with an agricultural background, he might bring the party back to it's senses. But no, I haven't voted for a Democrat since.

Stupid is giving the Republican establishment way too much credit.
If the establishment can't get one of its own elected, someone that will undermine the base of the party on every key vote, they are perfectly happy with a Democrat winning the seat.

GOP in New York State is worse than useless.
Political party. n. A political organization that subscribes to a certain ideology and seeks to assert the political will of its members through the execution of the political process.
I do not see the word 'acquiescence' anywhere in that definition...

Hmm; I didn’t know if NY governor picked replacements in such circumstances or how it works there...
But the results with the GOP picking are just what I expected if the Governor got to pick.
What stupid, evil people run the GOP.

Which is exactly why MAGA should have run an independent candidate. They now have until Monday to file the paperwork, which I doubt will happen. People could write-in Santos in protest, and he should register as a write-in candidate. That would make a statement to not expel their congressman.

Trump will have huge coattails and the GOP should be in much better position and have the majority. Which they will still do nothing.

“Hmm; I didn’t know if NY governor picked replacements in such circumstances or how it works there...
But the results with the GOP picking are just what I expected if the Governor got to pick.”
How it works is that each party’s county committee picks the candidate:
“There will be no traditional party primary where Democratic and Republican voters will choose from a list of candidates seeking to succeed Santos. Instead, county leaders from each party will internally vote for and nominate candidates for the special election, according to New York election law.”
Source: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/rep-george-santos-gets-expelled-congress-replacement-elected/story?id=105246712
Because this district includes parts of Queens County and Nassau County, both those two Republican county committees were involved in the choice.

The problem is that Trump is not doing enough to endorse MAGA candidates. Trump should endorse a MAGA candidate for Santos' seat, even if that is a write-in candidate. If the elites want to replace a MAGA rep with a Dem turncoat, Trump should flex his muscles, go to Long Island and endorse HIS candidate. If Trump endorses someone, that person could win as a write-in under these circumstances, and he should do that.
