We've all been this guy (well, minus the explosion).
Whether it was a cockroach, a centipede, some bees, or even just innocent ants, we've all gone a bit overboard trying to play exterminator in our own home. But let's give it up for this guy for making us all not look so bad in comparison to what he did.
The epic pest control fail was reported early Sunday in the city of Kumamoto [Japan] on the island of Kyushu, about 230 miles southwest of Hiroshima.
Sometime before midnight, a 54-year-old man spotted a solitary cockroach inside his apartment in the city's Chuo Ward and sprayed a massive amount of insecticide to wipe out the critter …
A minute later, an explosion went off, blowing out a balcony window.
The unfortunate resident suffered a minor injury in the blast, police said.
Can't tell if I'm sorry for laughing. I mean, it's a minor injury, so I feel like it's okay to laugh. I just hope his apartment didn't take too hard of a hit.
The explosion seems to be linked to the man's kotatsu, which is basically a heated table. Kinda want one of these now that it's cold out, but kinda don't want one in case I get a little trigger happy on the Raid next time I spot a flying ant in my living room.
No word yet on whether the cockroach survived the explosion, though from experience I'd guess the little guy is doing just fine and munching on an orange right about now.
Moral of the story: Just kill a bug if you see it. Don't be a wimp.
Monty Python did a hilarious skit about hunting mosquitos in the Australian outback.
Isobutane, but still a flammable gas.
Whatever happened to just using WD40 and a Bic lighter?
I bet it’s dead.
Orange oil works...so far I have had success with boric acid pills drenched in sugar Solution. Put the doctored pills in the deep normally unreachable hiding places.(by pets or humans)
The story is that the bugs are attracted to the sugar and get poisoned by the boric acid. They go and die in their nests and are cannibalized by their relations and then the cannibals die also.
So far, so good.
Correct. The sensor we built was developed for methane, but will detect and classify flammable gases. Using it as an isobutane leak detector is simple.
I retired a few years ago, and slightly misremembered...

You have to get serious with insects. They reproduce and thrive in exponential numbers. Fire or other weapons of mass destruction is authorized. Fire, Poison gas, poison food, fire, baited traps, diatomaceous earth, did I mention fire.

WE live about 20 minutes from Chuo ( Central ) Ward in Kumamoto in Minami ( south ) Ward ! Haven’t seen a cockroach since we moved from the countryside 7 years ago .
