Key Points:
- Numerous marketing agencies representing major brands have decided not to resume advertising on X following Elon telling them to GFY
- Temporary advertising pauses on X are likely to become permanent, with Musk's comments providing little incentive for a return. Lou Paskalis, CEO of AJL Advisory, highlights the reputational risk involved.
- Elon’s history of alienating advertisers, including threatening those who paused spending over content moderation concerns, has compounded the issue.
- Over 200 advertisers paused their campaigns on X after Musk's replying to an antisemitic comment and the presence of ads near pro-Nazi content.
- Musk's remarks at the DealBook Summit in New York, criticizing advertisers and accusing them of "blackmail," further escalated tensions.
- Linda Yaccarino, X's CEO, attempted to mitigate the situation by focusing on Musk's apology and appealing for advertisers to return, emphasizing X's commitment to free speech.
- Skepticism remains among advertisers, with Ruben Schreurs of Ebiquity noting that a significant shift in leadership or company policy may be required to attract them back.
- Tom Hespos of Abydos Media has advised clients to completely withdraw from X, citing ethical considerations.
- The situation poses a challenge for X, especially as the year-end is a peak advertising period. Major brands like Apple, Disney, and IBM have paused their campaigns, while some, including the NFL and The Athletic, remain.
- Musk's stance, risking the platform's financial stability, reflects his dismissiveness towards advertiser concerns. Steve Boehler of Mercer Island Group notes the resultant perception of Musk as a risky partner for brands.

Corporations are the lifeblood of the Deep State, at some point the connection has to be cut.
i wondered the same thing
i ordered a pizza online
then went to a site that ran google ads
the page was covered in pizza ads for that very shop
what a waste
only google and the sponsor site prosper; the pizza shop not so much
The term for it is "fascism".
Everything in this post is a demonstration of Alinsky Rule No. 1:
“Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.”
It’s designed to make people believe that millions of advertisers are fleeing Twitter, and it’s complete BS. (See Alinsky Rule # 1)
IOW, this is deep state propaganda. Dismiss it because millions of advertisers are NOT leaving Twitter.
Deal with it, you fascist corporate suck-ups.
Musk knows this.
Advertising dollars are like water. They will fill every crack and crevice.
Musk just improved his brand (and that of X) big time by taking a stand against those companies trying to intimidate him.
And Disney...who dat?
Well the answer is to boycott the scumbag companies.
Elon is a master at endeavors that can obtain government funds.
Outside of such he’s not able to do much.
Yep, the whole controversy was engineered by Media Matters.
The temporary or permanent pause in advertising on X shows the adaptability of businesses in responding to evolving circumstances. In a free market, companies must navigate and adapt to the changing landscape, and the decisions made by advertisers reflect their assessments of risks.
In the end, the market will determine the outcome.
I do not post on X. I do not have an account. I have never seen an advertisment on X. I go there following links about something that interests me. Usually something on FR. Furthermore I could care less who advertises there. What is the big deal? Why boycott someone that doesnt advertise on X. I guess some people just dont have better things to do than to be upset over a business decision.
Buried somewhere is my X app. I hesitate to unleash my supreme cleverness on the world.
I’ve never consciously bought anything because of advertising on social media. I’ve clicked through sometimes to look, but I’ve never bought. Purchases are always done by searching once I’ve decided to buy something.
******************
Same with me, I’m completely immune to any form of propaganda.
If every American had this immunity, there would be zero commercials during the Super Bowl.
You mean the crap-tonne of Disney accts at X, that I’ve blocked, no longer exist? And there have been a bunch. I’m talking probably 20-25.
Holy cow...I was wrong. Disney has 80-odd X accounts.
Leon needs to de-platform all of them.
450 million active monthly users.
Advertise or not. Their call...
Someone will.
There, that's more like it.
Disney? The grooming corp that has lost almost a billion in its movies in the last couple years? The one shedding millions of Plus subscribers?
Advertisers will put anything and everything in their throat if a buck is waiving in front of them
Close their accounts also while you’re at it ban them from any use of space ex satellites or launches
If Musk can fire 90% of the company and run it this well, just think what he could accomplish with less overhead!
