SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. (KABC) -- While most restaurants in San Clemente are closed on Thanksgiving, H.H. Cotton's is packed with special guests: U.S. Marines.
Owners Chris and Maureen Aitken have been serving a traditional Thanksgiving meal to Marines from Camp Pendleton for the last six years.
"Most of them are away for Thanksgiving for the first time in their lives," Chris said.
"We love doing it with our kids," Maureen added. "We have kids that have gone away to college and everybody comes back and comes together, and I think this event is really symbolic of San Clemente."
The Aitkens said it's a way to show their appreciation to these service members who are making a sacrifice to serve this country.

Wonderful people. Well done.
How dare they feed people who actually help keep our county safe? Shouldn’t they be feeding the dregs of South America that Biden has thrown open the border for? We obviously don’t have enough drones contributing nothing to the country so we needed to import more - preferably from Venezuela where they voted for socialism, destroyed the country (except for the ruling class) and will do so here.
Very nice thing to do.
It should be noted, I don’t remember there ever being a food problem on holidays on base. I spent a couple of Thanksgivings and Christmases on Pendleton and other Marine Corps bases and was always fed something special on holidays.
Excellent for HHCottons. They are being added to my bucket list of restaurants to go to. This needs to be spread out to all army, navy, marine, air bases during the holidays.
Yup.
I missed Thanksgiving and Christmas with my family in 1969, 70 and 71.....And nobody gave a thought about it.
